Instant comp hard reboot when starting play !!

I'm unable to play Rome (either 1.3 or VV 2.1, tried both) : the game and scenario load, but as soon as I arrive on the main map I have a computer hard reboot after 1 second !!!
It occurs only with this game, always after 1 second, even on a "cold" computer, and I cleaned my CPU fan some weeks ago, so I rule out overheat problem.

Please try a new video driver http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_190.38_whql.html

If that doesn't help, edit settings.txt as follows:

size={

x=1024
y=768
}


master_volume=-1

mapRenderingOptions={

renderTrees=no
}

This will simplify the graphics and turn off all sound. If that helps, you can change those back one by one.

Just tried all of this (new drivers+settings) to no avail, I've still "game loads-scen loads- map appears-REBOOT" sequence !

It's totally weird, I've never seen that with that comp (nearly 5 yrs old), and I play EU3 (with NA and IN), Civ4, and tons of 3D wargames (the non-flashy kind, like Combat Mission...). :wacko:

Noone here has any kind of suggestion to at least find out why this damned game reboots my comp ??? :wacko:

I don't really know to be honest. It could be a hardware fault. Run up DXDIAG again, and go to each tab and run all the tests in that tab, see if any show any problems.
