Hello everyone,

I´ve been playing Stellaris since it was released years ago. Always used a lot of mods (up to 150 at the same time ;)) and everything worked pretty well.

I feel that many of these mods (many of you now them; like Gigastructures, NSC etc.) bring Stellaris to a real epic stage.

A couple of weeks ago I wanted to play again ; I didn`t play Stellaris for about a year.

What happened?

After updating and sorting all of my now up to date mods (still around 100+/-) which took some time already....

I was waiting for about 30 minutes until I saw the main screen. Can you imagine? 30 minutes!

Even better: when loading a save game from mid-game it takes about 60+ (!!!) minutes to load a safe file.

I was used to long loading times before, but "long" used to be around 5 to 10 minutes to startup and load a savegame; but not a full hour until you are back into your game.

The laptop I am using works smoothly with games like Warhammer 2 (with dozens of mods running) or similar games and I never had these struggles....also with older versions of Stellaris.

Has anyone any idea how this can be solved? I searched the forums but didn´t find a solution which seems to work.

Every input and help is very much appreciated. I also think, that I´m not the only person with this challenge ;-)

See my pc`s specs below in DxDiag.txt.

your system seems to meet the requirements to run the game so i don't think that is the problem

the first thing i would check is your mods
im aware you updated everything

but there could be some minor internal conflicts between mods and content

i.e. Mod A has something that wasn't present in the game when you last played it, but now does; thus causing the game to seizure trying to figure out which one should be running (or is attempting to use both)

so double and triple check your mods to see if they have anything in them (even the smallest thing) that has since been added into the game; either via a patch update or dlc addition [that you have] and disable those mods...unless they are 100% needed to run another mod
in which case you may want to just disable that whole slew just to check and make sure that isn't the cause

it might take a fair amount of time to go through every detail of every patch and mod to find what could be causing the issue

assuming none of the mods have internal conflict with the game then next would be try to cut the amount of mods you use in half
during that double and triple check, make sure that any mods you are using are compatible
you'd be surprised how easily mods fighting each other can cause a game to lag because they are fighting for priority

You can almost assuredly assume there were conflicts when they used 150 mods last time, but they still loaded up within a few minutes.

Something exacerbated this issue causing insanely long load times. In my case, I was stuck at the splash screen / a black screen for 15 minutes before I got to the loading screen and another 30 minutes until I got to the main menu.

A user using the same set of mods as I was, according to them, spent about 3 minutes to load fully. So I don't think it's the mods, just some kind of incompatibility with some software running at the same time maybe.

Edit: This is the same issue, but with 75 mods not 150, but it sounds like their performance is better when it comes to just loading the game up.

then check for updates

on your os, on steam/paradox launcher/etc, graphics card

basically anything that could viably cause performance problems that interacts with the game

then after that minimize the amount of programs running in the background that aren't 100% required to play the game (ex; if you use steam then you'll need steam running at bare minimum in the tray)

beyond that though, i'm not sure what other help i or the moderators could give
as i'm not 100% sure what [if anything] they can do concerning mod related issues
