It might work well as an event.
If Spain chooses have the Inquisition she would get extra missionaries every year but the religous tolerance slider will jump back a step or something...

I see we're in danger of going "Pythonesque" again!

The Inquisition might be a useful tool for "conversions of heretics" within Europe, when you acquire provinces with a different religion to the State one. The question is, would a relationship hit with nations sharing the same religion as the province, or an enhanced revolt risk, be an appropriate penalty for using this option? The Inquisition was not very popular, curiously enough, in some quarters!!!!:D

Oh no! A moderator. Errrr....

Let's get back to our totally serious and humour-free discussion about the use of soft cushions during the Spanish inquisition. I propose a pop-up window that reads: We have caught 100 heretics, how do you want to treat them:

1. Let them go
2. Let them go but their heads stay here!
3. Poke them with the soft cushions!
4. Let them go and sit in the comfy chair yourself.

Tokarev, that is an utterly stupid and blithering suggestion. It should be perfectly obvious that 100 heretics can't all fit into the comfy chair at once.

Perhaps a poor way to phrase it, considering the subject, but you may well be right. It's its' effect that is interesting to contemplate.....I suspect it'll be to do with "conversion of heretics". Hmmm, useful!:)

Well, the a principal characteristic of the inquisition has been a collection (Codex something, my latin is a bit rusty) of "illegal" books. Predictably, these lists included practically every book with the exception of the Bible and some other texts. So, the inquisition did not favour scientific (or any) development. I think that a negative modifier to research of new technologies should be implemented alongside Senhor Torquemada.

Negative tech bonus eh? Quite historically accurate, and it would certainly solve the argument that's been raging on the IGC's discussions recently about hampering Spain by altering tech group,

Good idea!

A serious negative tech bonus is realistic. It can give a very natural decrease in the rate of technological development of some nations, and it can be generalised as to cover all inward-looking states that were not allowing foreign influences (Newton's principia in Spain or foreign books in post-civil wars Japan). The denial of "bad" or "heretic" influences is the true reason why countries that closed their borders to new ideas lagged behind.
