I've just had an ironman run ended because Münster gave me 2 provinces in a war which i didn't want.
I ended up with an ungodly amount of AE and was basically returned to square one.

There should be some way for me to prevent my allies from doing this in peace deals, because now I am afraid to answer calls to arms whenever an ally promises me land.

Something simple like refusing the land promise would be great.

Hope I am not missing a mechanic or sensible tactic here.

Normally, the AI gives you provinces on which you have a claim or, if you have the Cossacks DLC, you can manually set provinces of interest to them in the third diplomatic tab.

In your particular game, maybe you had many claims and the AI thought you wanted them. If not, I don't know what happened.

I hope it's okay to give a link to the wiki.

Sadly if you have a claim you can not tell the AI that you do not want the province.

The AI can say no to taking a province. The player can not.

So the AI can give you like 40 development from non-cobellignent participants inside the HRE in a war...

You can transfer occupation to other participants in the war that don't want it. E.G., if Munster doesn't want the two provinces you recieved you can transfer occupation to them so that they just leave them alone.

I did have the provinces marked as vital interest in this case. Only one had a claim though.

That was certainly a contributor to the problem. But it would still be nice to have a final say in the matter, because it is still handy to mark them as vital interest to prevent allies from taking the provinces for themselves too.

Thats a really good idea. Ill keep this in mind in the future to try and prevent this happening again.

Although still gotta wish there was a more convinent way.

Ah well. Hopefully Paradox will consider something in a future update.

I would certainly like having more options to do diplomacy with my allies. However a direct say in a peace treaty would require a complete overhaul of the "war leader" mechanic, and while I would love that, it seems that the HoIIV debacle on the subject discouraged the devs to try anything resembling a peace conference mechanic in EUIV. I am myself unsure how this could work.

Maybe I'm seeing too far, though, and it would indeed be possible to get a say in the peace without jeopardising everything...
