Inprisonment isnt a reason to declair war?

So this is a very spacific case. I am playing as dublin (Now duke of Meath and Leinster) I decide to marry my son to a the countess of Rennes who is still 15. As soon as she comes of age the duchess of brittany who is her sister imprisions my daughter-in-law. After only a few days she dies in prison (after 3 times sitting through this event she consistantly dies). So it was obviously a murder in the power struggle for the throne of Brittany. Why can't I gain a reason for war? Or does only my son gain that ability.

If you declare war on someone to free a family member from prison the people holding that person are just going to kill him and then the war is instantly over.

so there really is no point in starting it anyway.

That would give you a better reason to declare war, revenge-looting their land.

Also fun fact My daughter-in-law tried to assassinate her sister to gain the throne of Brittany. Didnt realize that, now everything is makeing sense. If only it had worked.
