Hi everyone, I'm quite confused about that inheriting. I have alliance, RM and same dynasty with Denmark, higher prestige then Spain (99 vs. 62) and still Spain will inherit Denmark in case that their ruler die hierless. Does anyone know why and what could I do to inherit it instead of Spain?

tl;dr: Size of country (development)

Personal union through diplomatic means

If there are multiple potential senior partners, then the following rules are used to decide the "best claimant":

  • There are three brackets of claimant countries. In order of highest priority to lowest they are:
  • Within these brackets, the country with the highest development (taking into account local autonomy) has priority.

Spain didn't used Claim throne, so I fit in (2 of) these brackets and they don't. Developement shouldn't matter then. I'll go to war to get these 70 devs i loose on Spain and will see if it switch inheritance to me then.

I didn't think countries that have junior partners could be inherited. Did that change on a recent patch, or am I misremembering how the mechanic works?
This surprised me as well, but I tested it and it is indeed possible to inherit a country which has junior partners(the JP will become independent). But you can't PU a country with JP when their ruler dies. I don't know if this was always like this or if it changed

You mis-understand.
It's not "how many brackets do you fit". The brackets are in a hierarchy, "claim throne" is higher in this hierarchy than "royal marriage". Bracket-1 takes precendence over Bracket-2, etc.

I did understend it correctly that Brackets are in hierarchy. Niether me nor Spain claimed throne so Bracket 1 is empty. I have same dynasty, unlike Spain so I fit Bracket 2 and so I should be one who will inherit country. Bracket 3 - RM doesn't matter as I have same dynasty with Denmark (Bracket 2)

If Spain isn't even the same dynasty, then that is very strange. Does Spain currently have a queen regent of Denmark's dynasty or something?
Their hier is also von Wittelsbach. But they have Queen regent (York) so currently they don't have same daynasty. Does it count as they are same dynasty even when they have only hier with queen regent?

What's the dynasty for Spain? Wittelsbach. Queen regent is not the BORN ruler, but rules until the heir to the throne reaches majority age. Hence, both you and Spain have same dynasty as Denmark, Spain probably has more prestige than you, and it is bigger as well.

Unfortunately couldn't claim it as they have hier with strong claim. But will do as soon as they will be hierless (already claimed Denmark). Hopefully they will get Wittelsbach dynasty on English throne in meantime (as they don't have hier atm)
