Protectorates and Rivals really don't give that much but it can add up if you have several of each.
Minimize the number of frontier outposts you use, only install them in dense clusters of resources or near planets you can colonize in place of the outpost later. An outpost is exactly what it is: an outpost, as in a place that will eventually be settled.
So plan is:Outposts are to grab the best nearby turf/space early and quickly. Placement is key. Then settle in that area quickly (no need to rush planetary upgrades right away), then destroy the Outpost. Rinse and repeat and prosper.![]()
So plan is:
Find ideal spots for Frontier Posts i.e. one whose range covers the best star systems possible
Harvest Resources/Colonise
Delete Frontier Posts

Good shout.Basically. Even better is if you just send the colony ship in the first place (if possible) since then you don't need to pay as much influence.
Would the cost of colonisation be less inside your borders (i.e. somewhere already with an outpost) or is it all down to relative distance from where the Colony ship was built?
Ok, thanks. So inside is always 30. Outside is relative to distance from....is it your nearest border, where colony ship was built or homeworld?Colonies within your borders always cost 30 influence
I think it is nearest border.Ok, thanks. So inside is always 30. Outside is relative to distance from....is it your nearest border, where colony ship was built or homeworld?
