Ok so to make a long story short I am playing as Tunis in north africa, managed to conquer Adana and Mus, the city states where the Ottomans and Mamluks border each other. This made me border the Timurids which of course gives me the nomad thing. Since I am tiny i get completely destroyed by them so I'm forced to pay tribute.

I got sick of it since I was paying far more than those two provinces were worth (they counted as long distance over seas provinces) so I sold Mus and Adana to the Ottomans for 200 each...but I'm still paying tribute years later to the Timurids and everywhere I've looked it says to re declare war on them to end tribute, but I have to neighbor them to declare war on them. As a tiny nation paying 3.5 denars a month is devastating and I've basically infinitely bankrupted my nation. Is there a way to change this by editing the save game or did I just lose the game through a bug? I no longer border them shouldnt the tribute go away?

I believe this is being fixed in a patch, its not WAD. Best course of action would probably be to grab a border, declare war (you'll lose 2 stability) and have defeat conceded either way. Then get rid of the border.

It is working as designed. Though one could argue, that tribute should perhaps be canceled, if you don't border each other any longer. However as it is you have to get a border with them and declare war. If they can't fully occupy you, you should be able to get a white peace in time.

The tribute is a "please don't attack me" tribute, if I don't border them (in fact I'm on a different continent) shouldn't this go away since they can't attack me anyway?

I believe this is being fixed in a patch, its not WAD. Best course of action would probably be to grab a border, declare war (you'll lose 2 stability) and have defeat conceded either way. Then get rid of the border.

Getting a border requires beating Ottomans or Mamluks in a war taking land from them, then attacking Timurids, beating them also. See my response to the Sute for an explanation why that is not an option.

It is working as designed. Though one could argue, that tribute should perhaps be canceled, if you don't border each other any longer. However as it is you have to get a border with them and declare war. If they can't fully occupy you, you should be able to get a white peace in time.

First of all you can't white peace hordes...that or my game is really broken. Second, to get a border would require attacking either the Ottomans or Mamluks, both of which are total suicide as Tunisia even though I do own Sicily, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia + Tripoli that gives me an army of about 12k vs the Ottomans or Mamluks of about tripple to quadruple of what I have.

So is my game broken or is this a bug?

I'm fairly sure I saw a post by a dev saying this was not WAI and would be changed.

I also notice that if you do not directly declare war with the horde you're paying tribute to you keep on paying tribute. If they for example are defender of the faith and you declare war on some other sunni nation.

Question regarding "Demanding Tribute" against the horde:

Played Castille taking over Jerusalem and fighting the Timurid, managed to push them back at which they promise to give "6.1 ducats per month", I accept this assuming it's 6*12 (months/year) *5 (years/truce) = +300 ducats
But when looking at the relationsships of both Timurid and Castille I see nothing about "X paying tribute to Y" in the list, and I can't see where to look in the economy for tributes.
My economy does, however, appear to be healthier but this might just be from a growth in other departments.
Does the feature with receiving tribute work or did the Timurid stop paying me after a few months by going broke?

Also, I have a core in Saidon (the province north of Jerusalem) which is Timurid controlled, how do I act to make that province "conquerable"?

When Timurids will declare war on you again, gain control of the province and send colonists there once you have control. If timurids gets control of the province before it turns over to you, the settlement will be destroyed.

The tribute, AFAIK, doesn't show up anywhere, but it is there. The tribute also depends on the current economy status of the country giving tribute, so if the timurids rapidly shrink in size or lose control of a lot of provinces you will get less and less tribute per month from them.
