There should be a penalty for that.

I think best way to balance China theatre is if Chinese player chooses to manufacture 1936 tech, and only have factories producing rifles. Nat China should be able to field a much larger force than the Japanese can field. Like they did historically, but this force would take heavy losses from Japanese divisions, and aren't great on the offense. Also the whole planning your attacks and building up organization and supplies is important. That way Japan can't take Shanghai and blitz all the way to Chongqing like one onstoppable train that doesn't need resupply or one that doesn't need a supply line.

Or they could just properly model railroads and and Japan would be stymied that way...

Is there an effeciency loss by choosing to build the latest model of small arms?

Is it more effecient to just stick with 1918 small arms, if you were want to just produce as many small arms as possible?
Based on previous info, it is. Switching factory to new production requires retooling, which means lower productivity for some time

Yeah thats how it is. Big icons are new equipment you have to produce while small icons are regular techs
Is it possible to mod this, or will it be hard-coded?

I think they stated that equipment was very moddable overall. If you wanted to make every ammo clip an "equipment" you'd probably be able to do that. Thing is the more stuff you add the more you'll have to rebalance the whole game (economy research etc.)

except 3d models? :ninja:

if you can create a format exporter and build animation tools not requiring our maya license etc you are free to mod them :ninja:

There is a difference between solving something so people can mod it and spending development budget creating tools for modders.

I did a quick search and there is a version of Maya for a monthly fee of 185 (there maybe other expenses & software needs). So someone with skills (not me) could get it for a month or 2 and crank out the 3D models for a mod. That doesn't sound too bad.

Deal! Just send me the clausewitz engine 4.0 and I'll figure something out ;)

You know Japan's small arm situation was pretty bad. They couldn't manufacture more submachine guns or semi-automatic rifles because they consisted of too many parts. I read somewhere that had Japan done that they would have lost the war by 1942.

I think it will be an interesting choice for Japan and China players. Do I build the latest small arms from my factories, which means I will be able to produce less guns. Or do I keep producing 1918-1936 model, so that I have enough rifles to arm my divisions. Particularly this is an interesting choice for China, as they barely had enough factories to produce small arms, no factories to produce artillery, tanks or airplanes. Maybe this means Chinese players will have to stick with manufacturing the same 1936 small arms throughout the game to equip 2.2 million soldiers.

For what I know it was a lack of qualified designers and engineers, I know a bunch of weapons were design by one guy and the lack of vision by Japanese Military leaders.

The other thing you might be referring is that the army would subcontract small companies, groups of civilian smiths etc.. and ask to build X part this would then be sold to the army and assemble somewhere else but this was a necessity due to lack of sizable industry that couldn't keep the Japanse war expansion, as the war progressed and Japanese factories were bomb the more times the military went to this small companies and subcontracted them. With this the complex parts that required precised machinery had to be replaced by simpler designs to allow production by this less qualified subcontractors.

So by keeping industrializing japan, focusing on promoting weapon research and issuing a Smg/Semi-auto when the rest of world does so, there shouldn't be these problems for the player.

This was mean though that Japan would not have adequate weapons to wage war in China for any sustained period.

It would also take away resources from naval production. Better, but less number of units. Bigger problem when Japan is embargoed.

Wait wait.. Will there be a way to group which infantry get which weapon, or will they all be for the same infantry model and we'll have to prioritise upgrades for different units out of three different weapon models and various techs.

Probably going to have to wait for an infantry DD.

If the new weapons aren't much harder to produce that the previous I wouldn't have a problem with them just going everywhere, and I'd prioritize my Airborne troops to give them the Assault gun, while everyone else gets a ratio.

Although now that I've seen it, I'd almost want different troop types and the experience cost would represent assigning and training with the new weapons.
But this last option would likely make it too complex wouldn't it? Or is it counter-acted by the seemingly glorious simplicity of the new division planner?
