Infamy Compete Chance Penalties Negated by joining Trade Leagues?

I'm playing as Brunswick and I got a trade CB against Haunsa when they embargoed me (I started the game in their trade league). So I made use of the Trade CB and declared war against Haunsa, with my main goal being to take Bremen (an ally of Haunsa) to give my country access to the sea.

Before signing a "white peace" with Haunsa (the alliance leader), I fully annexed both Bremen and Mandenburg and thus recieved a total of 16 infamy points.

After the war I went to the CoT page in the ledger to find that my compete chances ranged from about 15% to 20% in every CoT because of my high infamy (but the cost of sending merchants had dropped considerably, thanks to the fact that I now had a coastal province -even though it wasn't a core).

Then just a couple a weeks after the end of the war with Haunsa, I notice that I had a "very likely" chance to join their trade league again; so I did. I went to the CoT page of the ledger and noticed that my compete chances had improved from 15% to 20%, to 55% to 65%. My infamy was no longer effecting my compete chance at all! Plus I was recieving the "shrewd commerce practices" benefit because it was one of Haunsa's national ideas.

It seems way too easy to get lots of infamy and not have your trading suffer as a result. My compete chances are on average up about 40% to 45% in one day; and obviously this makes a HUGE difference to trading income. Is there some sort of feature which balances this out? Previously if your infamy was high, but not over the limit, one of the most severe effects of this was that your trade income would almost disapear, until your BB was reduced. Joining Trade Leagues seems to get around this too easily. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance

You have it in COT's like Venice, or only COT's that are part of the Hansa League?
Every single CoT. At first I checked the CoT ledger page, but then I went to them individually to confirm; scrolled over shields to get a compete chance tooltip.

If this is a bug, is there some way that I can fix it by simple modding?

also: other than not being able to build a CoT of your own, what are the cons of joining a trade league? Thanks in advance

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, it does sound like a bug. I'm not experienced enough with HT modding to know how to mod it though.

Can't quite think of any.

Can't compete with any fellow league members - so no 6/13 empty/1 CoTs. Basicly by being in a league, you are limited to 30% of the profit from a given CoT, while you can get 95% (well, 100% but that's almost impossible to maintaing) under ideal circumstances as an independent.

When you're a member of a league you always use the league leader's compete chance unless yours is better, so no, the BB penalty doesn't really matter to you in a trade league.

In every CoT in the world? My infamy penalty would be -32% compete chance (16 points of BB) if I hadn't joined a trade league. Just by joining a trade league, I can increase my compete chance by 32? Those 16 points of infamy can take almost 30 years to completely disapear; for at least the first ten I would normally find it impossible to get or keep any merchants in any CoTs.

The -2 to compete chance penalty for each point of infamy is one of the best reasons to avoid infamy. If you had the trade league benefits only in that trade league's CoT(s), that would still limit your trade. As it's working now, if you've aquired a substantial amount of infamy -just join any trade league and it's as if you have zero infamy around the whole globe for trade purposes. I think this makes it too easy to get around one of the most important reprecussions of infamy.

In way it is now, you (or the AI) can be as much of an infamous, badboy blob as you like and still be able to trade as if you had an honorable reputation.
