I've started a game as the UK, managed to push the italians out of north africa, and am currently working on garrisoning the beaches there and redeploying my army to the far east... I've encountered a bit of a problem here though.

I have roughly 2/3rds of the entire royal navy constantly running patrols up and down the central med sea... and despite getting in numerous battles each month, I rarely sink a single ship. As far as I can see, what ends up happening is my fleet engages the italian fleet... my aircraft carriers kick up and the battle begins at optimum range for carriers... seeing as how the italian's cannot reciprocate in force, after four hours of sustained combat (usually involving a little bit of damage and signifigant org loss on their part) they retreat back into port.

In the end, doesnt this seem self-defeating? I cannot risk pulling my most advanced fleets out of the med sea because I cannot cripple their navy, only harrass it and keep it in port... I'm only in 41, and do not have my next line of carrier's out (working with 4 lvl 2 carriers atm) -- will the results go up a bit when I start getting better carrier/cags, or will signifigant damage be next to impossible to inflict upon another navy when relying on CVs?

2 options...
1) bate them with a nice target that they can kill, then strike when they are close.. yes it risks damage yourself but will give your more fie power to bear

2) Carrier strike on port. Sink them at home

CV lvl 2 are worth nothing, but make the opponment flees. You must have CV lvl 4 (can be made by france and germany by 1937 and they got the new CV by jully 39 , so it must be easy for UK to do so. I my games UK always have 2 lvl4 CV in september 39).

So whatyou say is totally accurate and exact. you simply use the wrong tool to sunk the RM.

I noticed this too. Playing as Japan for the first time (normally germany or sov with little to no navy so i have no real fleet experience) I noticed my battleship fleets do signifigant damage whilst my carriers simply make them flee.

I think it has something to do with the ranges the ships fire at, for instance my carrier fleets whilst rarely sinking anything never gets scratched whilst my BB fleet is constantly giving and recieving casualties so i assume they get up close and stuck in. I have neglected my naval tech though so I assumed thats its my crap carriers and latter versions will do alot more damage?

That have t odeal also with the speed of the fleets, the positioning, the quality of the ships (let say a CV lvl 2 is less good than a CV lvl 4 to receive, refit and relaunch the planes after a first mission). So it must hardcoded somewhere.

If I meet with the KM (3 CV lvl 4) the RN ( 4 CV lvl2 or lvl1), then I will sunk the RN CV, withot loses ( or maybe a CA), if with the same KM I met the RN (2 CV lvl 4), then it will be equqlity (mostly if I sink a CV, they will sink one of mine, or if I am very lucky almost sink one).
