Thanks, sometimes tho I get the opinion that the vehicles returning to the Ore mines seem to come from the furthest highway entrance than the closest, which isn't the quickest. But if that is where they are coming from and then route through the city then I'll have to deal with that.

Vehicles always take the quickest route. but your import/exports may be coming from different cities (outside connections) and I'm not sure the priority the game gives on those. I'd assume it always uses the nearest city, but in my game it seems to focus a lot of traffic from my starting connection even in later game.

Did you turn on the resources never deplete mod? It was added to the base game. The thing with specialized industry is they have two types of buildings. Raw materials extractors and refineries. What I think is happening is the ore in the ground is getting depleted. So your extractors are being replaced by refineries and the refineries are importing raw materials.

Unfortunately without turning on the no depletion mod ore and oil always eventually run out and all the specialized industry of those types becomes refineries that must import. If you don't have to worry about running out you can get imports very low.

Showing off my current city with tiny import numbers:

View attachment 272204

You can see I'm exporting every industry type in the picture I posted earlier in the thread of the same city. So its very possible to get low imports with every industry type.

I have definitely turned on the resource never depletes option in the mod section, that was a good move and saved using the mod from the workshop. So that has been on from the start of the map.
So my ore resource can't have ran out and demonstrating that was the large export of Ore and also oil.

For some reason I'm importing almost 700 or so Ore and yet exporting it in larger amounts, from the same section of industry. That can be seen from those two screen shots. I have included more screens below.

I did not know that specialised Ore industry can be broken down into two parts, extractors and refineries. That explains why the extractors "turn off" being coloured blue when the imports are selected and the refineries "turn on" being blue. When the exports are being selected then the extractors only I assume are showing blue.

Understanding the above makes me wonder why two Ore industries, next to each other, one generating Ore and exporting it and then the other importing it.....?

Option selected for unlimited Ores etc...

You can see in detail my Ore imports....

exports....

and, to a lesser extent, oil imports....

and exports....

You can see that the same factory which is exporting is also importing, in some cases.

For sakes of discussion (and less confusion), we should probably all get used to calling the two "types" of structures for both the specialized oil and ore industry, as described on the Cities Skylines Wiki page :
Producers (or Raw Producers) and Processors (or Secondary Processors).
Here is the direct link to the Wiki page. I think it does a good job explaining some of the basics on this topic ....

Aside from some kind of bug all I can think might be wrong with your ore is a pathing failure. That single path in to the entire ore area might lead the trucks on a path to your other industry that is causing confusion. So they are just choosing to export instead. In fact that you arent having serious traffic issues is a little weird with such a bottleneck.

Thanks for that :)

My traffic is fine....

when I get to 50,000 I will start to connect those "satellite" districts more so that they will flow into each other and start to get more focussed on tourism etc. I know that by that time I'll have a lot of capital and map revealed with natural resources to move things around more to be at least more aesthetically pleasing.

I do find it strange as the whole Ore industry is both importing and exporting, from the same factory even. Each specialised industry is connected by faster roads to each other and the generic industry, as well as internal and external rail connections via good yards to each other.
I do see the Ore industry sending and receiving Ore from the 2nd outside connection, rather than just from the first or the third.

When I get to 50,000 I get the chance to reveal a section of the map with a very large Ore resource, I might be tempted to move that industry just to test that out.

Vimes,
Can you give us an image of this exact area, using the Info Views/Natural Resources perspective.
I would like to see how strong and wide the ore resource is, under your specialized area.

I would have done that but after posting what I did, I had mentioned that was considering doing this, I then got to 50,000 population and scrapped that part of industry. I then moved the location of the Ore industry to another location. I have a very close external road connection, internal rail to generic manufacturing. I also have all of my specialised industry connected by rail and a gods yard.

Now....

Import....

Export....

Resource...
