Every person should be accounted for working in an industry or commercial building by the employment office. For example if a factory or an office building decides to set up shop in the town , It places a bulletin to the employment office on what kind of positions are needed to be filled in like a CEO or blue and white collar job. The employment office advertises the position and those people come to town . Depending on their net worth they try to find a place of residents. Creating jobs in the housing industry from a housing projects to upper class homes. All secondary commercial government buildings follow suite bringing stores schools clinics police and fire stations etc. Their jobs are also accounted for in the employment office.
You've probably heard all of this before. According to CO every person coming to town will have an identity . employment immigration office will keep tabs on the status of person coming and going from their jobs, from a company that expanding or closing. Don't worry the simulator will do all the work .If you want to know about why the factory is closing , how many jobs are effected, and if some of the people will leave town etc. The employment tool button will help you resolve all  issues guiding you to zone what is needed in the residential commercial or industry.
To me I think this is important. What bothered me when I played cim city 4 was that I had to zone so much industry and commercial zonings to build up the population count. There was so many factory an commercial buildings with hardly any body working in them. In the real world buildings would of created at least five to ten times the population count . Also when you look at the map tile of the largest city in cities in motion 2 .That city's population would be five times larger in the real world then what the simulator sets it up to be. In United States I would say there's only a few metropolitan cities that have that kind of density . New York City! to name one .
That why I think the simulator should take count of how many people really live in an apartment building .and where their jobs an schools are located.
If a company does expand you add on to the building expanding the operation buying out other buildings or moving to another location. NOT plopping down a bunch of buildings that all look the same, like in cities skylines promo .It really doesn't look appealing to the serious city builder players.world

Agreed +1 .super Variation in Buildings is a must in city builders. Does not looks appealing if all the building everywhere are same looking. I saw one of the screenshots , it had tens of same kinds of swirling skyscrapper. I hope the devs add more variety , so that all of us can build a dream city rather than same looking cities everywhere.

I think that they've said about adding more types of buildings later. They're focusing on the core gameplay first, then on the visuals.

And yeah, I like this idea too.

Thanks I appreciate you input about having the same type of buildings pop up when a factory is expanding etc. It's nice to have a variation of buildings to pick from. But wouldn't be great if you can add on to an existing building , because the company is doing well. The simulator explains with a caption that the company is adding on another 50,000 square feet. And will be hiring another hundred workers. This is where modding come in . There will be boxes with different sizes ranging from 1,000 to 1,000,000 square feet . Use the building expansion tool showing a 50,000 square foot box . Then use any decor on the façade by adding text and colour to the wood, concrete ,steal, glass .etc. Make the roof top flat with details or just a plain cottage or gable roof top design . You can also add on details like signs and logos making the building look unique for that company. If that company expands to another town you can you the same image for the building. This works well for franchises.
