India: how is the title constellation?

I am wondering how the title are understood in India. Like in Europe we have:

- emperor
- king
- duke
- count

In India it seems like this:

- maharaja
- raja
- thakur

Is this right?

Do you know what thikana is equvivalent to?

I don't recall seeing that title. I would ==guess== that it's a female form. Perhaps it's either a cultural or religious variant of "wife of a thakur"; or perhaps it's down to the barony level.
