Finally I was able to build the duchy of Flanders, but in the course of events I was also at war with the German king,

so I went to his capital and captured it, so I won the war,

I was hoping to see a scroll "recognition of independence", but I didn't see it, when I checked my status I was still a vassal,

how can you become independent ? :)

Who was your liege? If it was the King of Germany you should be independent since you were in a war with him. Could be that your liege is one of his vassals, and he didn't join the war?

I'm sure that I was at war with my liege, i changed allegiance a long time ago from France to Germany,

I only had the scrolls to recognise all my titles (Duke of ..., Count of ..., etc), but no recognise independance,

I was at war with him because I took his capital and I checked and even chekced the name of the liege = the German king...

but still a vassal, :(

Ah, but were you his vassal during the war or did you just check after the war? He could have revoked your previous liege titles after the war.

Longshot though..

That is strange, when I had a war with my liege I was still independant after the truce was signed. I also forced him to recognise all my titles at the peace. This made me an independant Duke of Flanders in the end :).

Just some other random thoughts, when you were fighting the liege were you count or duke at the moment? And did you create the duke title or did you claim it from someone that hold it before?

I've the feeling you're gonna help me out here, first of all I needed Breda or Loon. So I dow'd loon and took it as mine, now I was able to usurp the Duke of Flanders title from Lorraine. It seems also Germany was at war with me,

After winning the war I took the title and I was still at war with Germany I guess. Now I became Flanders and then I go for Germany capital. After peace not independent,

Perhaps I can reload and do it all over again, :)

That is interesting, I played a little different. First I started as Count of Holland, so I was already part of the German Kingdom. My liege the Duke of Upper Lorraine was in war with the King of Germany after a while and once he had spend enough of his force on him, I decided that I was strong enough and declared war on him. I took Loon and Gent in two wars and was able to create the title Duke of Flanders then.

After my first war with the Duke of Lorraine I was an independant count already (because of the war between my liege and the king of Germany I had no link with the king anymore).

So maybe that is where the difference comes from? Also you write that you took the title duke of Flanders from the Duke of Lorraine. You mean that he already had the title claimed? Maybe that is the answer. I haven't tried claiming a title yet, but it could very well be that if the German king was already the liege of the Duke of Flanders that it stays that way after you claim it?

I had to usurp it from UL and then I had a reason to dow them and "force recognition on my title" after victory,

I never was vassal to UL, but I was vassal to Germany,

I even had a second war with Germany that I've won - still being vassal!

something buggy here,

by the way, I really tried different ways, but never succeeded to become independent from Germany AND get my title as duke of Flanders. But even after becoming duke, I had a war with germany after which i had to remain vassal,

:(

It remains strange, I saw you also reported it in the bug forum.

If I can find an old save game I will try to claim my title as Duke of Flanders before my Liege (Upper Lorraine) is in war with Germany. In my game the king was no longer the liege of my liege. Let's see if I can reproduce what you get then.

an hour ago the count of Gottingen made made peace with the German king and annihilated his kingdom,

lucky for me I'm now independent,

but it hardly worked wad,

by the way, I started out as Brugge (French vassal) and I pledged allegiance directly to German king later on,

You're lucky. In my game when Germany gets annihilated the game CTDs.
