I played this game short after release, then i paused, now i went for another go. I took small irish dominion of only two provinces. After just few months my only vassal started independcy rebellion against me :/. OK, i swept through the forums and found out, that the "faction" system is probably broken. Well, 2 questions:
1) can this be somehow switched off?
If not, then
2) I have Steam version of the game, am i able to go back and install the version before the faction update?
I am annoyed, the game is unplayable for me in recent state :/.

Thanks in advance for answers

Yes, off course it is. I can see this as solution for games where you are in charge of big empire and the game becomes boring. In cases, where you have only 2 provinces and your realtionship with your vassal is good (his realtionship to me was in green) it is just ridiculous and renders the game unplayable (to me at last). I tried to start the game several times with different small dominions with max 2-3 provinces and the scenario is the same everytime. Independency war after few months uninevitably.

Then you are playing wrong. Once it can happen somehow, but if it's always then maybe you can try looking for some let's play. I'v never had such issues several times.

really? in that case youre doing something HORRIBLY wrong. and no, if you didnt backup older versions of the game theres no way to roll it back to pre-factions. just learn to play, its really not that hard once you know what youre doing.

Ok, thanks for the answers. Well, just to give you one small example. Ther is this series, announced by Paradox on the newspage http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/content.php?1149-Crusader-Kings-II-Chronicle-%96-Follow-PC-Gamers-Epic-Undertaking. If you do exact the same moves as the author, you will get rebellion within 1066, within 3 months from the start. Well, may be, he plays also completly wrong. So, please, all of you are seasoned players here, it could be, that i do something really wrong. So please, how to avoid rebellion while playing small domaine? Thanks a lot for all the tips in advance.
(Someone pointed me to the How to play videos, well, all of them i found on the YT are pre-patch videos, what means, they can not handle this particular problemú

You really know how to appeal to our ego's don't you. In any case can you give more details on what has happened, leading up to the revolt?

I thought the independence movement were vassals who were not part of your realm, or am i wrong about this. In my current long running game I am King of Norway, having a few dependencies gained over the years. I have had two independency wars ( I am a slow player) & all the vassals concerned were ones that were part of the Norwegian empire, but still under other De Jure countries. Ones such as the Isles, Ulster & Connacht that have joined our empire as being in it for years don't join the rebels, & I have never seen any of the Norwegian ones do so.

You are a Count with only two provinces and "your vassal" started an independence movement? Meaning one of your Mayors or Bishops!?

He probably means a duke with two provinces, with one count vassal (Duchy of Munster in Ireland i think). If i'm guessing right you can send your spymaster to scheme in the vassal province, give away onorary title and in extreme cases gift your count with money. Or, better, make him revolt. You, your son and other relatives are unmarried, so play the alliance game, any kingdom or powerful duchy is good. When your vassal revolts call allies and crush him, then revoke his title. First step to form the Irish kingdom taken. ;)

I have absolutely no problem with factions..

They can be a bit non-sensical sometimes, but in a game I got running now, I'm King of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland (not created yet) and Lithaunia.

There's been independence rebellion so far, and that was beaten to a pulp without too much effort.

Every once in a while someone supports one of the claimants to one of my thrones, but they're forcibly put down as well. (point of this is, that once you get the hang of it, it shouldn't be too much of a problem)

Anyways, on to the current issue, I suggest you do the following (provided you're playing Munster): give your count vassal a honorary title so you improve relations a bit, and then bribe him with some gold. Send your chancellor to improve relations, and send your spymaster to scheme in his county.

Then you begin to put money aside. Once you reach 120-150 you revoke your vassal's title or declare war upon the guy to your south, whichever seems easier. Then you hire one of the mercenary bands that cost 75 and quickly besiege your opponents land & make peace. (remember to send the mercenaries home once you're done)

Play on from there :)
