First of all: I know that I can change it for myself, but I'd like to suggest it as an overall change to DH Full as I think it would be a huge benefit.

As for now, there is no way that you can keep up with the technology. Even as Germany, which has the uber tech teams, you can't research everything on its historical date, as it is just too much. A minor nation, with one or two tech team slots plus shitty teams themselves basically has no other choice but to neglect everything else as Infantry, Tanks and Industry if you want to at least look as you could keep up.

I don't think that this is historically accurate and what is even more important: I don't think it is fun at all.

So, my suggestion is to increase the minimum tech teams from one to three, while the maximum is increased from five to seven. I've played around with this now a bit and I must say that you still have to leave out stuff and focus with the majors, but you don't have to leave out entire doctrines or whatever just because you don't want to fall behind in land and industry stuff.

What do you guys say?

As a minor, you will run into the problem of not having money to research, having terrible tech teams, and having not enough slots for a much larger tech tree. I think the base tech teams should be increased, but only for minors (min 2-3/country, max 7-10 is a better balance imo)

I also decreased a lot the research bonus for old techs and also decrease the malus (a little less than the bonus) for before-the-date researches. This will give less weight to the tech year that it's something I really hate.

Minors have many many problems, even if they become big regional players.

I don't think tech penalty should be nerfed. I think the outdated tech research speed needs to be increased (currently max is as if we had a blueprint, should be increased to more than a blueprint). Simply put, tiny countries cannot keep up in tech at all (at any decent comparison) currently due to a lack of teams and a lack of IC for money for teams. As Czech, I had to stop research so often due to out of money and need to spend money on diplomacy (trade deals, peace offers).

Majors don't really have a problem.

I mentioned in another post about a 1933 Argentina game in which, despite conquering all of South and Central America (minus Mexico) Portugal, Spain, and Turkey, by 1942 and attaining 5 tech teams, I was still over 2 years behind the USSR and Germany. Although it wouldn't help Argentina in 1933 since they already have 2 TTs, I would like to see a base of 2 TTs and a smaller financial cost for researching. I do think that 6 TTs would be enough though.

It's a gamebreaker, I know. But a long-term solution would be to increase the industrial capacity manually. There's no point in trying to capture a slightly larger nation, as you're going to lose.

It's a pain in the ass to build factories yourself, it takes a long time but it pays off.

I'd have thought the limiting factors for research should be the cost in money and the number of tech teams coded in for your country, not some game-determined limit.

If Germany wants to bankrupt herself running 40 tech teams simultaneously, I say let her.
