Increase autosave maximum limit

I'm looking for a way to increase the maximum number of autosaves that the game can keep at once. Currently it seems to be 5.
Increasing regular saves to arbitrarily high numbers is easy enough (just mod 00_defines.txt > MAX_NUM_SAVE_GAMES to whatever) but I can't find any option for autosaves as it seems capped at 5.
I can make a tool to watch the save directory and copy any saves that get placed but it would really be ideal if there was a method to get the game to save the number I'm looking for.

I'm looking to increase the autosave cap to somewhere in the region of 2000-3000 save games (drive space is no object).

Instead of copying you could just have your tool running in the background while playing and have it save it's own (smaller and more compact) files instead. I have a python script that tracks economy statistics and it's performance impact is neglidgable (especially compared to the autosave lag spikes)
