Greetings fellow eu4 players,

I come to you with a bit of an annoying problem and I'm hoping you can assist me in solving it.

The past week when playing eu4 the speed at which days tick by has been really inconsistent and it is starting to annoy me to the point at which I just stop playing. Sometimes I can play at speed 5 where months fly by in 5-8 seconds and at other points speed 3 is the best my laptop can do but with lag.

When I look at task manager to see what the bottleneck is my memory never rises above 75% and my gpu and cpu are both never reach more than 50%. If I turn off all the programs running in the background, browser, skype, discord etc eu4 gets more love from my memory but still 65-70% is all that is used.

At this point it is really becoming annoying and I just turn off eu4 when I feel like it is 'one of those times'. I would play it on my pc if there weren't moments where I can fly through the months on speed 5. But this is not the case so there must be a reason why I am sometimes lagging.

My laptop specifications are: 8GB ram, Nvidia GeForce GTX 970M and Intel core i7-6700HQ.

I have checked driver updates and security scans. None of these had impact on it. I am not using any mods either. My laptop never gets warm either when playing eu4 so it is not protecting itself.

Any insights in what I could change or fix would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks beforehand,

Mike

Sounds like overheating. When did you last remove dust from the inside of your laptop?

Edit: Did you check the power management settings?

Unfortunately that is not the case here. I cleaned my laptop 2 weeks ago, and now it is never warm when playing eu4. Most likely because it does not use all the ram/cpu/gpu it should use.

Edit: My power settings are on high performance which I suppose is the right one? Have not looked into the specific settings yet.
