just wanted to chime in on the topic with this wonderful video :D

--edit: I suppose anything closer than second cousins can give you inbred children? That's how I remember it from CK1!

I remember when i accidentally married only my son to his first cousin (don't ask...).

I got to feel the ramifications of that 50-70 years or so -.-

I hope inbreeding won't be based on just being part of the same dynasty as in CK1. If you always married your heir to a daughter of the French king for like 5 generations nothing happened (at least in my games). But if you married someone of a cadet branch of your dynasty, which had been separated for over a hundred years, you instantly got a lisp or hunchback.

As another poster pointed out, they changed this in DV. It was as simple as "If characters A and B shares grandparents, there's a chance of defects/inbred trait", and I suspect this has been done again.

I haven't seen inbred that often in my games.

However, given the diplomatic benefits from marrying abroad, you are less likely to be marrying a member of your dynasty or someone at the "grandparent" level of closeness.

I don't know what the actual rule is, however. And it might still change before release.

In CK1 I married cousins all the time. One time I accidentally married my granddaughter. It is not possible to marry your siblings or parents but if you edit the savegame it works. The inbred trait is pretty rare, at least in DV. It also can come up generations later than the actual inbreeding (this is what I've observed, but cannot confirm).

By the way, just so everyone knows: a couple cousin-marriages aren't going to screw things up. The bigger problem is when you have first cousins marrying, and their parents are also first cousins, and their grandparents are also first cousins...

Considering the "genetics" system for appearance, it might be more accurate to add some "inbred" genetic traits, where you need to get the "bad copy" from both sides on a few genes simultaneously to feel the effects.

Exactly. One cousin first cousin marriage isn't going to cause the sort of family you'd see in "The Hills Have Eyes". The often cited Habsburgs only ended up as they did because of constant uncle-niece pairings, in succession at that.

Uncle John
