In war with ally and called into war against same ally

I can't find a thread about this same thing so here goes: Ottoderps called me in vs Austria, and then Russia attacks Lithuania which is guaranteed by Ottoderps. They call me in vs Lithuania and Otto's are at war with them also. I already accepted Otto's since it was like 6 months before Russia's call.

The question is what happens if I accept Russia's call to arms? Seems like I shouldn't be able to since I'd be with Otto's in one war and against in another.

Yeah, so you can't join the other war. At least Russia stays as an ally regardless of how bad they get kicked in the ass. lol

Through some shenanigans it could happen in CK2. Really confusing when your troops engage the blue coloured troops.

There was a rare bug with earlier patches in EU 4 where you could get a nation into multiple wars vs the same nation via vassal shenanigans. I haven't seen or heard about it in years so presumably the cause is gone.

This can happen even in the current patch of EU 4 too. If you are a tributary of Ming and they rent condotierri to another tributary you're fighting, you get this nonsense:



Not sure what the AI was thinking making that attack, either. Yes I was morale depleted from previous fight but it resolved before they move-locked and -3 is no joke, especially with them also getting flanked...

AI will be more wary of river crossings on the next patch.
