I'm really curious about this one, thread title is self-explanatory. Another thing I'm curious about is as to whether or not WW and 2 will be linked in some way? Like getting achievements in Magicka 2 gets you items in WW. Or maybe a button in Magicka 2 that directly links to WW.

It just seems really... Odd that two Magicka games would be developed simultaneously, even though they do obviously serve a different purpose. And WW is close to release.

Great input.

We're going to reveal features as we get closer to release. With that said.

But Magicka Wizard Wars is a PvP focused game and Magicka 2 is more like Magicka 1. MWW doesn't have a lot of story elements but there's a lot of humor - so PvP will obviously not be a focus of M2 - it's magicka after all so you can always kill your friends.

As long as Friendly Fire is available, I'm sure PvP will technically always exist. :)

My take on PvP is that you should use the same approach magicka 1 did. Don't implement it initially, let people do it with mods. If the mods seem popular, then do an official implementation.

It's not like the game is going to be balanced for PvP though.

What I am wondering is, will spell casting be like WW or M1 (three elements vs five [ lightning or arcane for spell type])

What I fear the most is that switching between the two games will be hard. For one thing Magicka 2 will have a five element queue.
I tried playing original magicka again after playing MWW a lot and it just felt... too different. Ideally I'd like Magicka 2 to just be MWW but with only/mostly PvE. That way you could carry all your skills and knowledge over easily and have a good coop laugh with your sworn enemies, I mean friends.

I already saw the graphics look quite different and the fact that the queue is five long tells me the development of MWW and M2 are quite separate. Or so it would seem at least. So that ideal case I described is probably not gonna happen.
In the end it doesn't matter, I will still play it. Just hope it's not gonna be vastly different gameplay wise.

VERY excited about the whole thing btw. :D

I guess it really depends on what the state of Wizard Wars is at the time of Magicka 2's release. If WW is alive and thriving, it probably wouldn't suffer too much by losing some players who would prefer to player M2 pvp. However, if WW's playerbase is still on the small side, pulling players away from it might not be a wise choice. I personally liked how high-stakes pvp was in the original Magicka, and am hoping to see it again in Magicka 2.

Personally, I hope that Magicka 2 does not include a dedicated PvP mode because firstly, five element spell combo's were impossible to balance.
Secondly, if it means that attention will be taken away from the story/co-op modes in favour of a PvP mode (Which we already have in Wizard wars which is and will forever be F2P) then no thanks.
Finally, if you aren't "accidently" killing your friends in story/co-op mode then you aren't playing Magicka properly.

PvP honestly would be a bit of waste of effort given the existence of MWW, I'd rather see Magicka 2 focus on what it's good at with a bit of TKing thrown in for good measure.

I agree with most that was said. Having full PvP with matchmaking or properly balanced 5 element spells is just wrong.

However, please add an empty arena or something so that we can play against each other in the current setup. I want to fight against my co-op partners, and I simply don't care if it is really balanced. For more serious PvP Wizard Wars is the place to go.

Maybe you could even allow Wizard Wars to be started from within Magicka 2. (An have a cinematic explaining the differences between WW and M2 in-universe (aka Vlads abscence caused so much trouble that we forgot how to put a 5th element into our spells...))

The Wizard Wars are a repeating event (every 10 years perhaps?) with the purpose of establishing the top wizards. To force the lazy wizards use their 'skill', powerful magicks are cast to limit other magicks to the strange and abstract 'focus bar', limiting the number that can be taken to battle, while only 3 elements can be put into a queue and Q and R, and Q and F, don't collapse into a single element to avoid the use QFQFASS, or some variant. Also, all other spells are balanced (well, supposedly ;)) to make all the spells more viable and increase the skill level required to reach the top.

In M2, due to the circumstances, the limitations are lifted, in order to save the world.
