The upcoming patch will include game setup options to toggle certain features.

Now that we've been playing with these features for 6 months and they've been patched to a pretty decent state, will you actually be disabling them?

For me in SP, hell yes. They just drag out the game without adding a "meaningful" increase in difficulty. I also basically only RP in SP games.

In MP, don't think so. I feel both defensive pacts and shattered retreat are a positive inclusion to MP games and often prevent gamier players steamrolling the map. I play CK2+ mostly, the way they have been altered works pretty well to this end so that games actually last an enjoyable 200-300 years.

Really looking forward to being able to randomise Mongols and black death etc.

SR is good in my opinion. Better then the thing before.
Random Aztecs, Mongols and Black Death is very interesting. I am curious how the Aztecs will do after a century or two.
De jure drift will be altered so it effects only bordering provinces.

I've only been playing for a few months so 2.5 is the only world I've lived in. That probably colours my perception, but shattered retreat is something that hasn't bothered me at all. I think I probably will disable defensive pacts though, mostly for immersion reasons.

I'm more interested in some of the other game rules though. The stream mentioned the option to make de jure drift happen faster but only affect bordering areas and I think I like that idea.

I'd pick de jure drift for bordering provinces only if it allows duchies to drift into titular kingdoms. I worry that it won't be possible since titular titles don't have any de jure borders. Does anyone know how it'll work?

I will not disable shattered retreats they make the game better, I like them.

I neither like nor dislike threat / pacts to be honest.

I'm undecided on that one actually but I might lean towards turning them off. I feel like it isn't implausible that countries would ban together. But I still think that at its core making the player wait for it go away isn't a compelling or worthy counter measure against the player.

Not in a game that already has its fair share of waiting time.

This is a good point. I would hope the way it works is it allows one duchy to drift into the titular kingdom and from then on other duchies will have to share borders to drift in.

If it completely doesn't work with titular titles I may also have to leave it off, especially since I play CK2+ where there are a lot more of them (including almost all empire titles).

Shattered retreat I may or may not turn off. I like the mechanic overall, but it makes adventurers so annoying to deal with, especially as a nomad. Defensive pacts I think I'll leave on; 2.5.2 is the only version I've played on for any length of time so I'm used to them, and it'll mean for extra bragging rights when I eventually go for achievements like SPQR.

Might turn off pacts, might not. I'll definitely keep shattered retreats though.

I think for me it would have to depend on the campaign as far as pacts are concerned. If it's going to require a ton of expansion (like restoring Rome) or holy warring, I'd honestly disable it. I'd possibly also consider it turning it off for a MP game, though for the average single-player Christian game I'd definitely leave it be.

For shattered retreat I'd probably leave that on as well, since I'm used to it from EU4. Everything else is stuff we've had forever such as adventurers and de jure drift, so I don't see much of a reason to change them either.

I will definitely have some things disabled (including defensive pacts, but not shattered retreats), but as I use a heavily modded version of the game and have removed/changed some things already and suspect that I will do the same with some Reaper features I might end up modding things directly instead of using the game rules as I'm not getting achievements anyway and Ironman with mods can be a bad idea if it turns out that something isn't working the way I intended for it to work.

Shattered retreats, yes. Feels more like a mechanic appropriate for standing armies, not called up levies, and the finality of battles is more appealing. Plus, as I've mentioned in the Weekly Challenge #5 thread, I had an Aztec army shattered for one province of travel before doubling back on me. I'm sure that there are other examples of weirdness in how it works and I'd rather turn it back on completely after a few patches.

Defensive pacts are not really all that bothersome. I'll have it on for Horde games, off for normal ones. Would love to see more changes done before I use it in all my games after the patch.

I just like to play very aggressively and the pacts force me to wait or attack rebellions -- which feels insanely gamey. I also don't like the fantasy stuff.

It's interesting to see the fairly positive response after all the rage the conclave patch features got in the months after release.

Just really poor execution on release I guess + people having time to be won over. A lot of that rage might have been based on the fact they were both from EUIV.
