It is now 15 December 1939. Poland has fallen, France has fallen and the Vichy government put in place, only a month ago. Winter now falls into the grounds of Europe and all is quiet... except for hoards of Russians just waiting to charge, kill and plunder.

I've currently got a DoW from the SU against me, and my Polish border is all but empty; with merely ~20 divisions put into two big stacks, and my Baltic liberation force defending the border. I'm very confused, because I never expected the Soviets to open up a second front so willingly, and quickly, and because I am completely unprepared for it.

This was Stalin's intention. In the game the Soviets should DoW Germany around 1942. If they did that earlier then you've probably done something quite ahistorical like invading the Baltics or Turkey prematurely.

Ha, sucks when you border Soviet Union. I just hate the feeling of a huge red blob with a big stack of blocks placed next to my border.

Yeah I'm going to have to side with you doing something ahistorical being the cause, like touching Baltics, Finland or Turkey. Or indeed starting the war before Danzig or War event (Aug. 1st).

Er, let's see what I did wrong here...

I didn't start war early, but spent the time mostly grabbing myself allies. I quickly grabbed myself Italy, within the next few months, and forcibly stopped their troops from annexing to get War-time Civil Expenses bonuses, until 1938, because I didn't want there to be any problems with the coring events. I dumped a lot of money on Nat. Spain during the SCW and got Spain in the Axis.

After 1938, I stockpiled up money, influenced Japan, and as soon as Munich was over, I allied with them. Japan fell Nat. China by August, by using beachheads on the Chinese coast to quickly encircle and overrun. Czechs were divided into Germany and Slovakia. For Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, I went by the historical route, and I prepared myself to rush the polish border with a few troops - relying mostly on my eastern allies, but I placed most of my forces in the West, in hopes of taking Paris before winter. A quick invasion of Ireland also took place, in preparation for Sea Lion. I did so, only to find that either UK had not guaranteed Poland, or Poland refused, (Looking at UK's intervention slider, UK didn't offer it) therefore there wasn't any Allied DoW to worry about. So I took troops out of the Western border just in case and make my life easier... Except France DoWs me a week later.

I quickly DoW Netherlands and Belgium, overrunning them within the space of a month (lacking proper panzers and amount of soldier to worry about), then I push through France through brute force and sheer numbers, and by November 24th, Vichy is created.

Poland was felled quickly, but I conquered all of Poland and then refused the Soviets any loot. Most of the soldiers on this border went to aid French conquest, but some Panzer divisions were left to go North to conquer the three Baltic states.

And now that I've conquered France, trying to make a beachhead through Liverpool, and mopping up the Baltic conquests with only Estonia left, SU DoWs on me.

Worthy of note is that Japan declared Pearl Harbour two years early.

Did I do anything to piss off Stalin here? Other than keeping Poland to myself, I don't think I've done anything special...

You don´t have to act ahistoric at all to get this happen. This has been discussed before. AoD SU just might take advantage of a Germany with all its divisions far away in the west. To me it happens most of the time. But I learned my lesson. Nine divisions in each border province is my conclusion. During my first games I was fighting SU in Vienna before I turned the tide. :p

So have fun and get your Divisions ordered east.

Doing only one of these things is asking for big trouble from Red Bear - and you did both of them. Leaving your border unguarded was a finishing touch :)

Bah, backstabbing soviet bastards. I always knew Stalin couldn't be trusted.

In any case, I've managed to set up a front, and with a few small offensives, I managed to regain the original Baltic-Polish-Rumanian line, and have set up positions there. So, the question is: should I launch an early Barbarossa? I mean, I do have TC problems, even now, but the SU had one less year to build up its forces, and there is little danger in the West. If I'm lucky I might get BP and beat Stalin by June '41, :p.

Or should I wait until '41 proper and try to use that time to build up more forces to take on Russia?

If you can beat Stalin in early 41 thats a good thing then you just have uk left in Europe. I dont think an erly fall of france trigers an attack from ussr on germany. If Germany has to many units in europe they wont attack.

If you can do an offensive now, why wait? :) France has been taken out, so the western front has been closed and you can concentrate on the USSR right now - waiting won't accomplish much. Every province you take from the USSR right now makes them weaker, and you get more time to repair the infrastructure and quell partisans than if you'd wait for one big push sometime later.
