Anyone noticed anything strange about sieges? They seem harder to pull off, even with 15k.

Failed assaults make morale resets etc..

and if they have defensive policies or advisors increasing it, then sieges may take significantly longer.

I noticed the morale recovery for forts.

When I sieged a province with 10 cavalry and 15k infantry it failed.. surprisingly. Yet, when Aragon sieged Vladdnarren ( can't spell it, sorry. ) with 3k infantry it succeeded, despite it being at full strength!

Hmmm.....

I haven't had a problem with besieging forts whatsoever, managed to conquer all of France with any long sieges. I used the detach siege party in each region rather than swamp all my troops in one area.

Hmm.. I think attrition now plays a larger role if the forts falls or not.

Perhaps its because I've played MMG2 for a while before I got IN. I dont know.

How can a siege fail? Do you mean your assault failed? They do fairly often is the walls aren't breached or you don't get really lucky rolls. Also, cav don't help in sieges or assaults.

Theoretically, sieges could always last forever. Whether you advance a siege or not is based purely on probability. It's never likely that it will last forever (the probability approaches zero as time goes to infinity), but it's remotely possible =p

I think assaults are a lot faster when maintainence is set low. I had the Ottomans kick my troops back and siege three of my provinces with about 3000 troops in about a week, before I realized my maintainence was at 0. I raised it back up and they stopped taking my provinces.

I've found sieges seem more in line with my expectations of how they would work. I just send some inf, assualt, watch moral go down, and as soon as I get the chance again assualt until it collapses. I don't know if the blockade comes at a higher tech level than the starting one for castille, but since I can't blockade any ports, continual assualts, and slow re-inforcements of one unit adding moral enough to keep it going for the rest seems to be the quickest way. I imagine once they get to level 3 or so, just sitting on them for long enough will be better.

Well, I saw some strange new things with sieges. For example when I played with the Netherlands and only had a small army (9.000 men) I took city after city sometimes within 3 months. The garrison was full and by the time the enemy (Spain) moved in to recapture the cities with a large force (over 30.000 men) it took them over 2 years even though they were led by a good general and had a much larger force (furthermore only try to liberate the occupied province). Is there some modifier that let's you take provinces faster by siege if you are from the same culture?

Well yes. Morale is lower when main is lower. You can win a siege/assault by taking the defenders morale to 0 as well as killing all the garrision or having them surrender.
