I'm a player who really loves populating my galaxy with preset empires - I kind of attach a story to seeing all these familiar, recurring faces between games, and seeing how luck of the draw, galactic geography, wars, alliance, rivalries make things play out different in different galaxies - like the fate of the Scyldari Confederacy, the Tzynn, or the Tebir in one game vs. another. The time that the Commonwealth of Man turned into Xenophile Honorbound Warriors allied with the Scyldari and one of the other friendlier preset nations because they had to deal with an adjacent genocidal empire (the XT-489 eliminator) and made a defensive pact and then federation first for mutual survival, then later genuine friendship. Seeing the friendship-hungry Blorg cozy up to whomever will accept them, sometimes making them end up somewhat friendship-yandere ally of the good guys, sometimes allied up with some of the worst nations just because they accepted the desperate Blorg as their friends.
But, one thing that I feel is missing from my galaxies as I do this is that there are some personality types still missing. The preset empires lack:
- Migratory Flock
- Decadent Hierarchy
- Democratic Crusaders
- Devouring Swarm
as the most notable exclusions
[The Pasharti Absorbers are technically fanatic purifiers when played by the AI, due to hidden code that switches out their Cutthroat Politics for Purifiers when not player controlled, though this is not obvious to a player who doesn't already know - I might actually encourage making them Purifiers by default]
We also don't have any plain machine intelligences, though admittedly they're less interesting than the special 3 machine civics.
Anyways, I just think it would be really cool to fill out some of the missing types.
