@Karaiskandar: It looks that way. And that will hopefully be Germany's downfall.

@Onni_Manni: Ah, ok then. At first, I thought it was some angry face or something. I was sorta thinking that I had somehow pissed off all of this thread's Finnish readers and would now be hunted down.

@everyone: thanks for the comments!

Having finally succeeded at Tornio, the British attempt to move further east, attacking Rovaniemi. Unfortunately, they hit a wall of fanatical Finnish resistance, with highly mobile and heavily armed Finnish infantry launching constant attacks on the flanks of British armoured columns. Large numbers of British troops are killed and dozens of tanks are destroyed for little to show for it, forcing the British to call off this attack.
battleofrovaniemi.png

Back in Kazakhstan, allied units converge on the Zhambyl region, which had just recently been retaken by the Russians. Attacking from all sides, the allied forces are able to break through the enemy lines and retake the province.
battleofzhambylbulge.png

Unfortunately, the Russians continue to launch incessant counterattacks against the allied forces as soon as they retake Zhambyl. Huge numbers of allied troops are killed before they are forced to retreat once more.
zhambylbloodbath2.png

The 1950's come to an end with the beginning of the year 1960. Except for a couple of limited successes in Copenhagen and Bulgaria, the German frontlines continue to hold strong. Millions of German troops currently line the ramparts of "Festung Europa", and have so far held back all direct allied attacks against them.
europe1960.png

Asia by the year 1960 is not faring much better either. Despite starting very strong in the late 1950's, the allied offensives into Central Asia have bogged down, thanks to intense Russian army counterattacks. In more positive news, China is completely unified under democratic rule now.
asia1960.png

To help get the Asian front moving more quickly now, allied units launch a large scale offensive in eastern Siberia, with the main objective of reaching the Yenisei river.
siberianoffensive.png

Meanwhile, in France, Joint Allied Command decides after some debate to once again make a shift of American combat forces. While the Canadian units that arrived in France earlier will stay there, the vast majority of the American forces that arrived are ordered to the French southern coastline, for preparations to redeploy elsewhere.
shift2.png

Back in Siberia, allied units pushing to the west become bogged down. Most allied offensives in the region are halted due to heavier than expected enemy resistance, forcing allied units to hold back for reorganization.
abakanfailure.png

In Europe, the huge American forces that had been taken off the French frontline arrive to their destination: the Balkan front. With over 1.5 million US and Allied troops how in the region, General MacArthur can now prepare for a far larger offensive in the region.
balkanfrontreinforcemen.png

In Siberia, allied units lay siege to the enemy forces garrisoning a key airfield in the region. With vast numerical superiority in the area, allied troops are able to advance and take control of the airfield.
siberianairfield.png

With the weather now clearing up in the Balkans, General MacArthur launches his large scale offensive into the region. His objectives: destroy the Bulgarian and Hungarian states, and advance all the way north towards Hungary, Bessarabia, Bosnia, and Slovakia, with the main goal to force the Germans to redeploy divisions from Italy and France in response.

@SovietAmerika: Correct, but thanks to the conquest of many far away victory points in places like Siberia, and the better infrastructure in places like Europe, I should be able to make great progress and end the game before that happens. If not, then I could try putting in the no time limit patch or something. Hopefully I won't need to though.

@trekaddict: Cavalry? How about tanks instead? "Into the valley of the shadow of death rode the Centurion tanks....":D

@Onni_Manni: True, but then again, the terrain and the length of the front didn't really help the Swedes out very much, despite Sweden's rather large army. Finland has lots of terrain advantages, technological parity, and of course, gold old "Sisu".

@everyone: thanks for the comments!

American led Allied forces unleash their fury at the Bulgarian defenses. Although the Bulgarians hold their capital and the mountain ranges of Pleven, elsewhere, Allied units break through.
mixedvictories.png

The setback at Pleven does nothing to stop the allied advance, as allied forces rally and hit the region again from multiple directions. Bulgarian units collapse under the pressure, and allied units take the province.
fallofpleven.png

Meanwhile, over France, the skies become filled with hordes of German and Russian jet fighters, hunting for any American aircraft that try to challenge them over the frontline. It seems that unless something very drastic happens, Germany and Russia will own the skies over western Europe for the duration of the war.
enemyairsupremacy.png

General MacArthur now leads the second allied Assault against Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Bulgarian units are by now suffering from huge military casualties, greatly reducing their ability to resist. Soon, overwhelming Allied forces break through, and capture the city, forcing the Bulgarian government to flee.
fallofsofia.png

In Central Asia, allied units, after a long period of organization, launch a major offensive operation in the region. Their objective: reduce pressure on Allied units further south by smashing the Russian's northern flanks before moving towards Allied units along the Chinese/Russian border. A breakthrough is quickly achieved at Balkash, and allied forces advance east.
reliefoperationcentrala.png

Back on the Balkan front, allied units move into Macedonia, the last major stronghold held by the Bulgarian government. After a short engagement, the Bulgarian defenders of the area break from combat and flee towards the adriatic coast, abandoning Skopje to American forces.
battleofskopje.png

To the northeast, American units march on the former Romanian capital city of Bucharest, defended by 50,000 Hungarian and Bulgarian troops. Overwhelmed by American numbers and firepower, and facing supply problems brought about by Romanian guerrilla attacks on their supply lines, the enemy forces retreat. The population of Bucharest erupts in cheers and celebration, as American forces drive through the city streets.
liberationofbucharest.png

On March 30th, 1960, the Bulgarian government, which had been in hiding in Macedonia, comes forward with the offer of surrender. Accepting the inevitable, the Government of Bulgaria surrenders unconditionally to the United States, with Bulgaria's army also laying down its arms and preparing to go back home. Now, American forces and their allies prepare to move further north, to face the powerful Royal Hungarian Army that is now arriving in large numbers in the area.
bulgariansurrender.png

MacArthur leads the charge as American units begin to cross into Hungarian controlled Serbia. However, the allied forces face a setback, as huge Hungarian forces arrive in the area and succeed in forcing MacArthur to call off his attack. However, this is more of a Pyrrhic victory for the Hungarians, who have suffered very heavy casualties in their fight to stop the American advance.
battleofnis.png

The situation in Central Asia is becoming more fluid, as Russian forces continue their tactic of stopping allied assaults with constant local counterattacks. Fearing that the whole operation could be lost, Chinese forces are ordered to cross the border and head for Alma-Ata, successfully pushing the Russians back in that province.
battleofbalkash.png

After some reorganization, US forces begin another effort to enter Serbia. This time, the Hungarians are unable to halt the advance, with their units falling apart in many sectors and American tanks with mechanized infantry support breaking through. The Hungarians take heavy casualties as they flee towards the north, in the direction of Bosnia and the city of Belgrade.
inchingintoserbia.png

Meanwhile, in Central Asia, a monumental event begins to unfold. Chinese units succeed in linking up with American units west of Alma-Ata, resulting in the encirclement of 800,000 Russian troops in Frunze. Worried that a great opportunity may be lost, over 2 million allied troops, led by Chinese units, lay siege to the area from all directions. However, with Russian units approaching alama-ata from the north, this opportunity may be lost. It is a race against the clock to see whether or not the Allies will be able to gain a very decisive victory.....

Looks like victories on all fronts except in France. War will probably be over within 2 years.

Honestly I'm kinda surprised the russians aren't sending out peace feelers. They've lost the far east, baku, and are losing central asia. And there is no way finland can hold past spring. And then what, you'll have brits in St. Petersburg. Course they could use nukes, but even that won't do anything other then slow you down. No way they could push you back out of Scandinavia, not before you have reinforced.

Keep up the great updates

It's great to see the war going well after the pessimism of a few updates ago. I tend to say this every other update but the Russians must really be being bled dry now, if you manage to take Frunze the loss of 80 divisions is a blow even they won't be able to recover from easily. The advance in the Balkans is an excellent development as well, surely Germany must start pulling divisions from other fronts to reinforce Hungary or risk a total collapse of its position in Europe.

@SovietAmerika: Nah, I prefer China to have its RL borders, with a little extra when the war is over. I will probably give China Mongolia, Taiwan, and possibly Tannu Tuva after the war.

@Earth's Savior: I am not sure if you understand, those divisions that I sent to the balkans were the ones that failed to break the German defenses in the west. This was the only way to wear the Germans and their friends down.

@CylonAndrew: To be fair though, some of those regions actually welcomed coming under Russian control. The cossacks, the Kazakhs, both welcomed Russian control, and I am sure the people in Transamur and Belarus both welcomed then as well.

@Užičkibombarder: Lots of different graphics mods. I would prefer not to list them, since there are quite a lot of them.

@Zhuge Liang: Believe it or not, Frunze is actually going to hurt them even more than it looks like it will.

@Asalto: Thats the plan. Hopefully, the Balkans will be Germany's undoing.

@everyone: thanks for the comments!

Frunze. In this pivotal battle, combined Allied forces succeed in breaking through the Russian defenses. Russian relief forces that were trying to reopen a supply line to these trapped soldiers fail to arrive in time, resulting in the capture of 800,000 Russian soldiers as new prisoners of war. This massive loss for the Russians is made even more bitter by the loss of huge quantities of heavy equipment, including hundreds of tanks, thousands of trucks and armoured personnel carriers, and huge quantities of ammunition and fuel oil. This is a devastating loss that has in one fell swoop given the advantage in Central Asia back to the allies. Now, huge numbers of Indian, Chinese, and Asian allied units that were stick covering Frunze can be redeployed to other locations, to help the allies gain more territory in Central Asia.
800000prisoners.png

800pxpikiwikiisrael4223.jpg

In Europe, the Royal Hungarian Army continues to put up more and more resistance to the advancing American forces. Here, in Montenegro, massive Hungarian reinforcements succeed in stopping this attack.
boggingdown.png

Along the northernmost portions of the Central Asian front, Russian units continue to launch constant counterattacks against advancing allied forces. These succeed in only causing temporary setbacks, with huge follow up forces being able to successfully hold new allied gains.
samarkandskil.png

Back in Europe, American troops advance on the vital Ploesti oil fields, in Romania. The Hungarians fight very hard to try and keep control of the oil fields, but eventually fails after taking huge casualties at American hands.
battleofploesti.png

In the Pacific Ocean, German long range nuclear submarines that were attacking convoy vessels in the pacific are attacked and mauled by American light aircraft carriers. Despite losing control of ports in eastern China and far eastern Siberia, German submarines are still a menace in the pacific, something that is becoming greatly annoying to the USA.
pacificuboatsunk.png

Back in Frunze, the site of the mass surrender of 800,000 Russian soldiers, another, smaller mass surrender takes place. Seemingly out of nowhere, another 440,000 Russian troops arrive in the province, most likely from Zhambyl. These units are quickly rounded up as soon as they emerge from the countryside by allied forces, bringing the total Russian POW loss from this province to over 1.2 million soldiers. The Russians will never be able to recover from such a devastating blow.
440000moreprisoners.png

Back in Europe, General MacArthur marches his army and large supporting forces into the former Serbian capital of Belgrade. This American attack also coincides with a massive increase in partisan attacks by Serbian guerrillas, which helps the Americans to rout the Hungarian defenders and liberate the city.
liberationofbelgrade.png

As American units continue to move northwest, they succeed in encircling 50,000 Hungarian soldiers in the city of Dubrovnik, on the Adriatic coast. These units are very quickly forced to surrender.
fallofdubrovnik.png

With Serbia now liberated from Hungarian control, American units begin to push northwest into Bosnia, attacking the infamous city of Sarajevo, site of the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, the event that led to the First Weltkrieg and all the events that have culminated into this final great war. The battle for the city is relatively short, as Hungarian units, savaged by American firepower, quickly break apart and flee north.
battleofsarajevo.png

Germany meanwhile continues to retaliate against the allies by attacking allied cities with ballistic missile bombardments. In this case, German missiles rain down on the city of Taranto, in Italy, killing many people and causing great damage to the local infrastructure.
germanicbmstaranto.png

Finally, in Finland, a daring operation is undertaken by units of the Platinean Army. 2 divisions of Platinean infantry land on the Finnish southwestern coast and seize control of some of Finlands major coastal cities. Unfortunately, the Finnish army is able to quickly respond to this attack, crushing the brave Platinean soldiers before they can be evacuated by US or allied naval forces. Joint Allied Command afterwards sends a complaint to the commanding generals of the Platinean army, cautioning them not to launch offensives without first warning Joint Command of their operations. The Platinean generals reportedly said in response that "they would take it under advisement". However, this will likely not be the last offensive like this undertaken by the Platineans and their very brave soldiers.
