So, I am playing a campaign as William the Conqueror, Dec 1066 start, with HIP.
As usual, fairly powerful vassals, causing trouble and voting against me on several important matters.
I decide, given the lack of any good CB and wars, to try and get Cumbria from Scotland, for the Duke of Northumberland. While I am fighting a hard war in the Scotland, the bastard Duke of Mercia, Edwin, not only attacks my vassal for his de jure claim, but also votes against everything that I wish, even though I granted the bastard control of Worchester, on the first day.
After I won the war against Scotland (killing their King in personal combat btw, nice touch), Morcar asks me to grant control of Cumbria and his count to him... at the same moment, I sense fantastic opportunity, I grant him Cumberland, transferring vassalage to Duke Morcar of Northumbria... after which I ask for a favor.
See, the thing is, I had an option to imprison Edwin of Mercia, because he was slandering me, and laughed to my face when I asked him to stay out of fractions. At first I could not imprison him, at least not with the approval of the council, which would give me tyranny. But Morcar's move for Cumberland, granted me a favor, which I used and forced him to vote for the imprisonment of his own viscous little brother, which I tried to befriend and keep satisfied in the first place...
So, Conclave / free patches that came with it, might have some rough edges, but it offers some great moments in game...
And yes, council votes annoy me so much, because they almost never vote for the same thing, but that's part of the fun I think.
