Hello.
Space is full of strange creatures - tiyanki, amoebas, dragons, crystals, etc.
I propose not to limit ourselves to subduing them. It is clear that some of them are intelligent, such as dragons. By the way - where did they come from?
But all interaction comes down to - kill / pacify.
But if you think about it, you can use them.
How about doing some quests to make these animals useful?
For example:
1) special project "Breeding Tiyanki" - each Tiyanki in your space creates food. And you can pay another 500 credits and they multiply.
2) the same for peaceful amoebas
3) "Management of amoebas" - you can redirect the migration of amoebas to the star system you need. It is convenient - let the enemy fight with them.
4) "Training of crystals" - crystals in your empire give you resources. You can also pay energy and please a new crystal.
Etc

I hope the idea is clear.

Well to be fair the existing Amoeba interaction is already a little different. You don't actually pacify them, you just learn how not to piss them off. They're still aggro to everyone else who did not get and pursue this project. And, of course, there's also Fluffy =)

Yes, you are right, they are not aggressive to US. Therefore, we develop the idea further - you need to learn how to control amoebas. Let them fly to those parts of space where our enemies live and be aggressive there.
And the amoeba is not only valuable flagella, but also 3-5 thousand pounds of dietary, well-digestible meat. We must breed them.

Could be an early version of the crisis Beacon

I wish we could atleast modify the tameable ones.
Right now, when ever you get them. They're just too slow to keep up with even battleship fleets.

What about being able to strap some thrusters to them?
Perhaps requiring an ascension? like e.g.

Bio ascension makes biological versions of the best thrusters.
Cybernetic ascension give them cybernetic implants to control the thrusters.
Psionic ascension will place a "rider" on the back, who controls the thrusters while maintaining a constant psionic connection with the creature.

I'd at least like a way to get Crystal-Forged Plating tech by studying Crystal Nidus instead of destroying it.

Another idea: Ability to strap a sensor package to pacified traveling creatures, giving you info on whichever system they're in. Doesn't offer any control, but gives you a way to scout some hyperlines and gain info behind closed borders. Maybe occasionally give you a small amount of intel.
