I've been playing Darkest Hour for ages and decided to do a little research in order to improve Bulgaria. My goal is to modify the tech teams in a historically accurate way (as much as possible). Most of the information is available only in Bulgarian and despite that I had trouble with finding accurate pictures of teams from the same historical period with 1 or two exceptions.
Note that the changes are about the 1933 scenario. All the names are translated in English because it's better for non-Bulgarian gamers to understand them (try to pronounce Darzhavna aeroplanna rabotilnitsa :) )

First things first - a few words about the current techteams.
Some of the teams in 1933 are available for the 1914 scenario and some are for some pre 1914 scenario (they may be useful later).
hw9x6f.jpg

There are also those which should stay from 1914 onward and those which shouldn't.

15xnz4h.jpg
This is the old CBSA team. It's abbreviated from Caprоni Bulgaria SA. No changes to the specialties (as I think they are correct and have no basis for change). Pic is from one of their models in 1935. Established in 1930 after Caproni di Milano bought the Czech AERO factory in Kazanlak. Caproni Bulgaria goes bankrupt and is nationalized in 1942. In 1947 production is discontinued.

34gromh.jpg
Darzhavna aeroplanna rabotilnitsa - or DAR Aircraft Workshops. The aircraft workshop was well known as just DAR. I've seen the company's logo but it's too small to be visible so again - another model. No changes (the same reasons as before). Established in 1925 in Sofia. In 1940 production was moved to Lovech (State Aircraft Factory). Over 1000 models produced.

aoahh.jpg
State Aircraft Factory. Created in 1938 to supply the Bulgarian Airforce with planes. Equipment from DAR in Sofia moved to Lovech. Production starts in late 1941. Development of fighters and tactical bombers as well as testing. Pic - one of their most successful models.

* Many companies had no official logos back then as they were state-owned.
All Bulgarian aircraft production was discontinued in 1954 and planes were bought from the USSR.

29yilgh.jpg
Atanas Burov. Bullgarian banker and politician. Involved in industry, railroad construction. Occupied several ministerial posts. In 1912 already a solid public figure he volunteered to the army (the only active member of parliamnet to do so) and took part in the First Balkan War. Almost got killed but his metal lighter saved his life. Awarded the order For Bravery. Active in the period 1910 - 1944. Arrested in 1944. Later sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Communists. Died in 1954. Just added a better pic. Also available in 1914 scenario.

3476xrc.jpg
Military Academy. The oldest military institution of higher education in Bulgaria. Established in 1912 but opened in 1915 due to the Balkan Wars. Nearly all generals graduated here. Still exists. Actual namer is just Military Academy. After 1951 is named after Bulgarian revolutionary Georgi Sava Rakovski. Pic is from a photo in 1928. Replaced general Ivan Vulkov (wrong picture and time period) who was active as a military officer until 1929 when was appointed as an ambassador to Italy. Specialties are the same as his but added +1 skill. This is the only land doctrine team in the period 1933 - ~. Also available in 1914 scenario.

2celm2u.jpg
Rear Admiral Sava Ivanov. Graduated from Sofia Military Academy and later the Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg. As a lieutenant he is credited with establishing Bulgarian naval aviation after in 1916 attacks a Russian storehouses in Sulina. Interested in naval aviation, oceanography and commander of destroyer division. Head of Varna Naval School (Then Navy Mechanics School) in the period 1928 - 1935. Chef of the Bulgarian navy 1935 - 1939 when is succeeded by rear admiral Variclechkov. In 1944 he was forced out of Sofia but returned and died in 1958 . Author of many books about oceanography, naval history, naval manuals etc. Specialties - seamanship, naval training, small unit tactics. Wanted to add bomber tactics because of his naval aviation interest and work but it would be the only naval doctrine team with aircraft doctrines so I decided to leave it as it is. Pic from his personal photo album. Active period 1928 - 1944.

345egxc.jpg
Bulgarian Red Cross. Established in 1885. Developed medical science in Bulgaria, involved in relief activities during all wars in which Bulgaria took part. Trained volunteers, established field hospitals, built hospitals and many other activities. OK for medical researches. Still active. Pic is from a volunteer badge in 1935. Also available in 1914 scenario.

spc6j4.jpg
Bozhurishte Airfield. Replaced Vasil Boydev as he was cheif of the air force but not an air officer. In fact he is on the picture with some graduates from the air force academy in Sofia which used the airfields in Bozhurishte. Bozhurishte Airfield was a major air force base since 1912, a flying school, repair facility and training center. After the defeat in WW1 it was stripped of most of its equipment and even hangars but later rebuilt and was a civil aviation center. DAR factories were also bult and prototype planes were tested. Young pilots had their training here too. In 1937 it was reestablished as a air force base. It remained so until 1948 when new planes required longer airstrips and improved facilities. Fighter tactics tech. Also available in 1914 scenario (although not sure about the specialties then).

r19xte.jpg
Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Established in 1896 still exists. The oldest and largest science institution back then and now. No changes except for the pic from 1927. Also available in 1914 scenario.

f09px3.jpg
Kazanlak Military Factory. No changes except for the pic - a marking on a m 35 rifle produced there. Officialy State Military Factory. During Communist rule in 1964 was transformed and expanded as "Arsenal" Kazanlak. Exists today. Note that during WW1 the factories were in Sofia and moved to Kazanlak in 1924 for strategic purposes. Also available in 1914 scenario.

6t03nk.jpg
Pernik State Mines. Renamed the Pernik Complex. Pic is from the mining facilities in 1928. Mining in Pernik started even before 1878. In 1891 the first mine of the state company opened. It works since then. Expanded and modernized in the interwar period. Also available in 1914 scenario. No changes to the specialties.

vg7ib8.jpg
Stoyan Stoyanov - maybe the best Bulgarian fighter ace in WW2. Graduated from the military academy in Sofia and later from fighter academy Werneuchen. Awarded the German Iron Cross 2nd class three orders For Bravery. The only air force officer to be awarded such an award. Credited with 14 air victories. Continued to serve after the Communists took power until 1954 when was dismissed for "political unreliability" despite being in charge of pilot training on the new Soviet planes as well as Air Defence. Available period 1939 - 1954.

egr13q.jpg
Added better pic. Zakhari Zakhariev was a Bulgarian officer credited with the creation of the modern Bulgarian air force. Studied in Bozhurishte air academy. Forced to flee Bulgaria because of his leftist views. Went to the USSR where was appointed instructor in Tambow air academy. Held high posts there including chief of the academy. Volunteered to participate in the Spanish Civil War on the side of the Republicans. Bomber pilot who flew every day on the Madrid Front. Became Hero of the Soviet Union in 1936. Later awarded the "Golden Star" award. First foreign citizen to receive it. 2 times representative in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. After 1944 returns to Bulgaria where held many higher offices as chef of the air force, deputy defense minister etc. Retired in 1973.

35altar.jpg
VMZ Sopot. This comes from Vazov Machine-builidng Factory in the city of Sopot. Established in 1936 and starts production in 1940. Still exists. During Communist rule expanded significantly. In 1940 - 1954 main production was shells, bullets, mortars, machine parts and tools. Later production was expanded to the non-military sector. Now is the biggest ammunition factory in Bulgaria.

10yp7nt.jpg
The predecessor of Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy. The Navy school undertook many changes since it's establishment in Ruse. It was moved to Varna and expanded. After WW1 it was renamed and again reorganized. The cadets were trained according to the program of the Sea Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg. Practical training was done on torpedo boats, machine factories and on board some small vessels. In 1929 it was renamed to just Varna Navy School. Later it was reorganised as a Naval Akademy in 1956 and certified as a higher education institution. After that year a new team should be added - Varna Naval Academy with + 1 skill and centralized execution but this is not the purpose of this post now.
Skill is 3. Specialties allow basic naval doctrine research but centralized execution, large/small unit tactics are missing as Bulgaria didn't have large military ships and studying was strictly theoretical. Pic is from a collection of navy insignia published in 1932. Also should be available in 1914 scenario but I can't get the game to include it as another tech team.

2iw3xn8.jpg
Fleet Arsenal Varna was the only shipbuilding and reapir facility until 1944 when the naval base in Burgas was established. The fleet arsenal was part of the naval base in Varna and cooperated with the navy school. There was the primary base for Bulgaria's Black Sea Fleet. The six French torpedo boats were assembled in the arsenal as a covered berth was built in 1906 for that purpose. A floating dock was ordered and in 1917 the arsenal expanded. In the interwar period it was not destroyed but saw no development. During WW2 the arsenal was again operative and there were built many small vessels as well as repairs to foreign and Bulgarian ships. During Communist period it was expanded and remained the biggest shipyard in Bulgaria. Also should be available in 1914 scenario. Skill is 2. Specialties should allow research of destroyers, transports and maybe some larger ships. The arsenal was not capable of naval artillery research or large engine production. Its docks were medium sized and was used for repairs and building of small naval vessels.

Those are all the tech teams I've researched and done. Starting in 1933 those are the only ones there should be as Nikola Jekov (land doctrine) retired from military service, other generals like Vulkov and Bakurdjiev had no real military or political role in the period. Atanas Shalapatov was chef of Navy school for just 3 months so I removed it. Vasil Boydev was not a pilot just chef of the air force and worked to aquire planes for it. Vereinigte Rottweiler Pulverfabriken which was a WW1 tech team is removed as I can't find even one mention of it in Bulgarian or English or German.

Everything I know about it is from the old forum where Royaliste wrote:
Rottweiler Pulverfabriken: Massive German manufacturer of ammunition and explosives. Exported a great deal of munitions to all of Germany’s allies and had very a large subsidiary in the Ottoman Empire as well as Bulgaria.
Vereinigte Rottweiler Pulverfabriken - Bulgarien: This German owned subsidiary was the largest manufacturer of explosives and munitions within Bulgaria from 1900 till the end of the war.

Maybe it was just an exporter or licensed Bulgarian-made ammunition. If someone can give me some sources or documents it will be appreciated.
Sorry for the long post, feel free to discuss the newly proposed teams. This is the first part as there are like 6-7 more. Currently testing the pics and editing the two tech files in dh and dh full.
If asked will provide sources for each team.

30vnrb7.jpg

This is the final list. Red is 1933 scenario. Green - 1914.

Hi!
Bulgaria (and many other minors) needs improvement indeed. I'm not sure it's a good idea to translate tech team names to English as this is not consistent with other national team names. The rest of your suggestions look fine.

Thanks. Fixed G.S Rakovski Military academy as in 1933 it was just Military Academy.
I'm posting the transliterated names of the teams as seen on the list just to have them. Personal names excluded.

95001 Bulgarski Caproni
95002 Darzhavna Aeroplanna Rabotilnitsa OR DAR (too long)
95004 Voenna Akademia
95005 Darzhavna Samoletna Fabrika
95007 Bulgarski Cherven Krust OR BRC
95010 Letishte Bozhurishte
95011 Darzhavna Voenna Fabrika
95012 Morsko Uchilishte Varna
95013 Bulgarska Akademia na Naukite OR BAN
95014 Darzhavna Mina Pernik
95016 Flotski Arsenal Varna
95018 VMZ Sopot
Problem is some are too long, other hard to understand when abbreviated and pronounced at all. (if someone ever tried that :).)

A possible team is Bulgarian State Railways but it would be another industrial research team similar to Pernik State Mines. (mechanics, managamenet and maybe technical efficiency).
In conclusion in the period after 1933 Bulgaria had its own aircraft factories, a few staff schools, a solid banker, mines, an ammunition factory , some great pilots and some fair naval research teams. The country relied on buying German and European military equipment like tanks and planes. The defeat in WW1 and the subsequent treaty of Neuilly made it difficult to develop the military industrial complex.
Things Bulgaria didn't have were big shipyards, vehicle engineering factories, heavy industry and electronics capable teams, tank factories and teams for specialized units like mountain and marines.

Sorry for the double post.

Bulgaria province and tech update for 1914 scenario.
Airfields in Sofia and Xanthi are ok.
Bulgaria should have researched just the recon fighter and the experimental bomber in air units. Air doctrines are ok. No aircraft building facilities, just good pilots training on foreign bought planes. A recon fighter unit with like 9 strength is all the air force in 1914.
Naval base in Varna lvl. 3. The headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet. The naval Base in Burgas was built in 1944 so it must be removed.

Dobrich shouldn't have a naval base or an airfield. Constanta was the primary naval base for the Romanian navy then and now.

Bulgarian navy should have a single 1885 destroyer division (6 torpedo boats bought from France). They were small (97 tons in displacement) so they can't be 1902 fleet destroyers. Info about them HERE.
Bulgaria should have researched the torpedo gunboat of 1885 as her newly acquired gunboats were assembled in Varna. Also the troopship.
All other researched things are OK. No comments there
Infrastructure and IC levels look fine as they are hard to determine exactly and I don't want to mess with them.

Province update for the 1933 scenario.
No changes to infrastructure or IC. Airfields - Sofia lvl.2 (still existed but stripped of any military installations, operational as a civil aviation facility).
A single lvl. 3 naval base in Varna. (Burgas must be removed).
All techs look fine as they are.

Just a question on the "Bulgarska Akademiya na Naukite"-Team:

according to Wikipedia the academy was named 'Bulgarian Literary Society' up to 1911, that feels like there wasn't a real math/natural-science Department before 1911.
If you look under "Departments" on wiki and click the links you find out that most of all technical or natural Departements were etablished after 1945. On wiki there is no list of Departements during 1911-after WW2; it looks like the Academy wasn't capable for comprehensive research before the commi-era.

My question: are there missing Infos on wiki or should have the academy less specialities?

Well, in 1914 the Academy worked in close ties with Sofia University which had chemistry and math departments. The two institutions published almost everything on these subjects in Bulgaria including translations from foreign science journals. In 1933 the process was largely expanded and developed. You are right about the commie period so I decided to change the team in order to be more accurate.
The new team Sofia State University is the actual institution that did most of the research and education based on literature imported via the academy. So I suggest you replace the team with this one. Established 1888 and in both 1914 and 1933 had math and chemistry faculties. Pic is from the emblem of the University Publishing house in 1915 as the building was finished in 1934.

SU Kliment Ohridski (1900-1991) Skill 3; chemistry, mathematics, management
Here's the pic. SU means Sofia Universiti - Sofiiski Universitet
Edit the both DB and DB Full techteam .csv files. in order for the changes to take effect.

general equipment, mechanics, technical efficiency, artillery, vehicle engineering.

300v0k6.jpg
Avionams was one of the few inf not the only one aircraft repair facility in the People's Republic of Bulgaria. It was established in 1939 as an aircraft factory Georgi Benkovski in Plovdiv. Until 1947 it repaired French Dornier and Bulgarian Aircraft as well as German ones Bloch МВ200, Ju-52, Focke Wulf FW-58, FW-189, FI-156, AR-96. In the period 1947 - 1952 the facilities were adapted to repairing Russian IL and Bulgarian Laz. Aircraft engine testing facility was added later and preparations were made for full maintenance of jet engines for YAK 23 and MIG 15. After 1952 until 1965 there were produced spare parts for jet aircraft including Mig 15, MIG 19 ad IL 23. Later the factory upgraded its facilities so there were repaired foreign fighter planes (mostly from the Warsaw pact) including MIG 23. Helicopter design and repair were included after 1996.
This was and should be the only aircraft/helicopter research techteam in Bulgaria for the period 1947 - 1991 (exists today) or 2000. Skill 4 helicopter design,
aeronautics, fighter design, bomber design, electronics. More info here sadly in Bulgarian. English page is too short but there are pics and names in English.

2rr4g9d.jpg
Tehnicheski Universitet Sofia (Sofia Technical University) was another higher education institution which became very prestigious during communist times. It started as a machine-electricity institute and later developed as Higher Technical school the university's holiday is 1945 as a year of establishment. Despite more transformations (engineering, machinery and electronic institutes) all its facilities became known as technical university in 1996. Because of the complicated history I decided to leave it as it is today. Active 1945-1991. Exists today - Skill 5 - mechanics, industrial engineering, electronics, chemistry.

es5n9s.jpg
Brigada Spetsialni Sili (Special Forces Brigade) or 68th Special Forces Brigade was very similar to Spetsnaz. Started as a paratroops detachment it was developed in 1940-1944. The paratroopers were trained in Germany and had the latest equipment of all Bulgarian Forces. After Bulgaria switched sides the paratroops fought the Germans. Later in 1964 based on this unit were developed 2 paratrooper brigades which were united in 1975 to form the Special Forces Brigade. Active 1975 - today. Skill 4 - training, small unit tactics, airborne training and SPECIAL FORCES TRAINING (but i forgot what was the name of this attribute)

2dl0ks5.jpg
BETA was a military factory specializing in machinery and vehicle engineering. It was developed later in 1974. Production included armored personnel carriers, electric cars and parts for them. Exists today but produces machine elements like bearings. The factory produced own prototypes. Active 1974 - 1991 (now). Skill 5 - munitions, mechanics, technical efficiency, artillery, vehicle engineering.

24nify1.jpg
Simeon Simeonov was a notable jet fighter pilot. The first one to pilot a jet fighter during night time. Promoted to general when 36 later he was made chief of the airforce when was 48. First Bulgarian pilot to be a candidate for military science. Very skilled fighter he remained instructor and trained pilots. Despite having problems with top communist officials he was saved by Defence minister Dobri Djurov who praised his qualities. Active 1951 - 1974. Skill - fighter tactics, piloting, training, individual courage.

2hquxah.jpg
Aviobaza Graf Ignatievo (Graf Ignatievo Airbase) was the place where Bulgarian pilots trained. Exist today. It's tightly linked with Bulgarian airforce history. In 1951 were conducted the first landings of jet fighters. Here for the first time was conducted a supersonic fight on a MIG 19 in 1957. Info here .The base received higher grades like "first class fighter pilots training facility", "outstanding base" and other. Exist today but reorganized under NATO standards. Active 1953 - 1991. Skill 6 - fighter tactics, piloting, training, bomber tactics.

308fl2h.jpg
Dobri Dzhurov - a senior military and political figure in Bulgaria. Defense minister for 28 years (1962-1990). Graduated from Furunze and Voroshilov military academy in Moscow. Commanding 3rd Army in Pleven, worked tirelessly to upgrade the army with modern weapons and tactics, developed a system of retreats for military personnel, helped equipping several firing grounds and military academies. Led all major military exercises (including Warsaw pact ones). Helped establishing a military factory in his home village, a sanatorium and water supply. Donated many of his books to the village's library. "Hero of PR of Bulgaria", "Hero of the socialist labor" , 3 times awarded order of Georgi DImitrov and 2 times order of Lenin. He even participated in the overthrowing of Todor Zhivkov in the end. Active- 1956 (when became deputy defense minister) to 1990. Skill 5 -
training, large unit tactics, combined arms focus, centralized execution, general equipment, management

That's all I suggest. They are mostly notable figures, large industrial complexes or education institutions. Use them whenever u like on mods or games. If you have any questions feel free to ask. I'll do research and answer you.

Hi kujiro!

In my mod I want to have as correct as possible gouverments for as much countries in the world as possible.
Do you have any Information about the various goverments of Bulgaria during WW2? (or even better until today?)

Important for me is when which politician take which Position and how the Goverment takes Control (to write the Event).

After all I Need something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Borisov_Government
But from all the WW2 Govs (Gov No. 27 is the first (1935-1940) if I'm right).
Which Minister had which Position? Was the Gov elected or via Coup d'etat?
Also important for me: Where there any importand changes of Ministers? As example Minister died etc.?

Do you have too Information about the Military Leadership? When was which General Chief of Staff/Army/Navy etc.? Why they where replaced?

I know, it's a lot lot of Infos, and I don't expect that you do all the Research for me, but maybe you have a nice source where I can extract all these Infos?

Would be great if you can help me to have a most realistic bulgaria :)

Greez
Opa

edit: btw, I lost you're pre-commie-Techteam files and pics, can you reup the data? Had some Trouble with my HD some months before :(

Link to pre-communist tech-teams If any other links are expired pls tell me to re-upload. HERE
So, about the governments - Wikipedia has info about them HERE
If you chose to play from 1933 you need basically that government "Мушанов 3" - Government of Nikola Mushanov 3 (31 dec 1932 -19 may 1934)
You need all the governments from No. 50 until 64.
The info is in Bulgarian so in order to help I have to translate all the info and it's a lot.
So I'll translate the first government (Mushanov 3). The government was elected.
prime-minister - Nikola Mushanov
Ministry of the Interior and public health - Alexander Girginov
Foreign minister and religion - Nikola Mushanov
Education - Dimitar Gichev (from 19 january 1933 - Atanas Boyadzhiev)
Finance - Stefan Stefanov
Ministry of Justice - Nikola Mushanov (from 19 january 1933 - Yordan Kachakov)
War ministry - Alexander Kisiov (from 9 may 1934 - Atanas Vatev)
Trade, industry and labor - Dimitar Gichev

Agriculture and state assets - Konstantin Muraviev
Infrastructure, roads- Georgi Iordanov
railways, postal service and telegraph - Stoian Kosturkov (from 5 may 1934 - Nikola Mushanov)
