These people only fool themselves. And I think you mean the players who play the game in a more gamey instead of a historical way. I belong to the last group and I like to play 'what if' scenarios.

Whether or not they fool themselves doesn't matter. What matters is that restricting player choice makes the Nation Designer a better/more used feature overall.

When okay, but can you at least hide a button somewhere so I can easily remove the implementations? You can call the button whatever you want, I won't tell.


Also, something more serious, is the bug where the AI asks you to share tradepower fixed? Even weak nations to this, even while they will also accept the opposite (meaning they give you power).

Edit:
Luckily we can still create nations and then use the console and the integrate (tag) command. Even for custom nations.

In short, any 'cheat mode' that can be enabled by in-game option isn't really seen as cheating by players, and loops back to the issue of them ruining the challenge for themselves. When you have to mod, it's more explicitly viewed as cheating.

It's like how players will exploit loopholes in mechanics to make money and view that as regular gameplay, when the effects are no different than opening the console and typing 'cash'.

I just want to hop in and express my appreciation for your relentless logic, Wiz. You get a lot of flak for it, but you have some silent fans!

These changes all sound great. I'm pretty excited. I haven't really touched custom nations since shortly after their release until 2 nights ago.

The one huge thing I may miss because I just don't really try custom nations enough... is it possible to just flat disable tech groups based on region? Like, play in a world of all random custom nations that are only ever western tech. OR, alternatively, to at least have a bonus to being an inferior tech group so that eg a normal custom nation in India and another in Europe are not each spending 200 points at territories valued the same while one has a flat tech penalty and the other does not.

If this is already possible, awesome. Currently I was only able to sorta do this by removing tech penalties manually in the game files.

Not without modding. If you mod away the penalties you could use dynamic setup for random nations with equal tech.

Will custom nations be able to choose NI changing when they use nation-forming decision?

No. If you had this then you could just create not-Prussia with 0 points in ideas and switch to Prussian ideas.

Then you're in a minority, but that's beside the point.

People commonly complain that some games are too easy, usually because they are poorly balanced (player is too strong relative to his enemies) or poor design. Players could make it harder for themselves by using self-imposed restrictions like playing with one hand. But that wouldn't make the game more fun.

Take all of the FPSes that have basically god mode enabled by default (or what they call auto regen). You could make them harder by shutting down your PC/console every time you take a hit. Would that make theses games better ? not really.

A game must be fun, balanced and well designed from the beginning, even at the expense of player freedom. Player freedom can be enhanced by mods. Especially in EU4 making a mod such as a new country is dreadfully easy (although it can be quite menial to get all the province IDs)

What about regular achievements? And will the max number of points for custom nations mean we can or can't get achievements, or is it the same if I take max 800 points or 200 max points....
Here are the two custom nation achievements revealed so far:
Humble Origins - Starting as a custom nation with no more than 50 points, have at least 2000 total development.
Ideas Guy - Starting as 800pt custom nation with only 3 development, get a monthly income of 500+

Oh yes, government rank can be modified in 1.14 too.
If a Custom Nation were to somehow start with more than 300/1000 development, would they automatically gain their respective rank without having to spend points?

This one is the most interesting to me. How did you even do that? Doesn't that mean that you essentially added some hundred tags to the game? Shouldn't that royally tank the game's processing?

I just want them to add drop down menus or something similar.
Clicking through 50 different backgrounds or randoming to try and find a good name is somewhat tedious.

This might be unique to my resolution and/or computer as well, but I have trouble selecting options on the cultures and ideas dropdown without the menu closing. I have to keep holding down L-mouse while scrolling down the options and mousing over the one I want before letting go.
