Khurramite
The Khurramiyya, or the happy religion, arose from a long series of local developments that interacted with the islamic conquest.
As a result the growing influences of buddhist resurection theology and the pressure of islam grew together with folkist zoroastrianism.
Following the assassination of Abu Muslim this growing series cult would detonate into a series of rebellions led by various
chrismatic leaders, such as Babak and al-Muqanna. I ck3 the cult is represented as a faith under the zoroastrian umbrella
with the adaptive, reincarnation and pacifism tenet. Futhermore it is otherwise treated as just another flavor of the same
religion however it differed strongly in both sevral spiritual aspects as well as differing relationship to the clergy.
The laymen of the clergy were called Ravandi and the Leaders of the faith are known as Imams though it is unclear if they
adopted the title or if it is an equivication by latter muslim scholars. Regardless the Imams were semi-divine and often
served both as charismatic leadership as well as political. The various cults belived that the holy spirit had been ingested
(Holul) and transfered from prophet to prophet (Holul). Among other: Adam, Muhammed, Abu Muslim, Babak and Muqanna.
In the case of Muqanna he declared himself to be the Mahdi who is the final saviour in islam. This also made him the cult
leader and general of the resistance in Khorasan. In contrast Babak Khorammdin inherited leadership from the previous leader
and swore to expell the Arabs and restore the Khosrows (Sassanids) to the empire.
Socially the Khurramites valued a communitarian order. They avoided blodshed in peacetimes, favored vegitarianism, an open
attitude towards sex and a non-rigid clerical structure. However this did not exactly make them pacifists. In both Khorasan
and Azerbaijan the cult rebelled with ardent determination and zeal. According to Iranica encyclpedia the subsect known as the
Ḵedāšiya was particularrly brutal. I seems that the Khurramiyya incorperated a version of Jihad which makes sense considering the
situtation they found themselves in.
So as you can see the pacifism is a gross oversimplification. Quite frankly it mainly fits into a code of conduct in peacetime
while they also had an approach to war as well which was hardly reluctant. The proclamation of prophethood in context of Islam and
the promise to expell the arabs are hardly peaceful either.
Let's start from the begining we have 4 different title that we need to consider:
Ravandi should be the equivalent of the Mobad.
Imam ought to be the equivalent of the caliph.
Mahdi title for the one to create the head of faith.
Rosol should be a trait that goes along with the title of Imam and increases piety as well as opinion with the faithful.
