In Realms law tab, there is new interface regarding the succession (succession screen) with all eligible heirs and amount of "Respect".

Respect is calculated in following way : plus 1 for each level of fame and devotion, plus 1 for each virtue, minus 1 for each sin or negative fame trait, plus 1 for august, family patriarch and crusader traits.
New character interaction, "Include into inheritance" makes character additional heir and shows him/her in succession screen.

Finally, in succession screen, you can assign your titles between heirs as if you granted them titles on deathbed. You can also split the gold, it adds additional Respect per each years income given to non-primary heirs.

Each change costs prestige and your primary title goes to primary heir, period. Also, total negative respect means your wishes will be ignored.

What lowers respect:
1) If you do not meet requirements of partition type, it scales with regard to severity, e.g. not giving heir required number of counties is treated differently as not giving second heir duchy of his own, only counties.
2) If there are heirs who do not stand to inherit anything or one heir gets more than s/he should.
3) You can send your heir to monastery/holy order, if eligible, but s/he can refuse, flee and became adventurer, also it costs a lot.

This grants some level of control and leniency...at a cost.
