I'm one of those people who prefer to use counters instead of fancy icons for clarity. But what bugs me is that the counters, fine as they are graphically, are nerfed down versions of the standard icons. For one, why the god-awful stacking in huge piles? When big stacks are present (in case of AI armies more often the norm than not that armies consists of single divisions) the piles clutter the map, blocking map icons and other stacks behind them. Second, why don't the counters show org and strength bars for the whole stack like icons do? With icons when selecting one unit from a stack you get to see the status of all units in the stack with one glance, but with counters you have to click through every single individual unit to get that information. Third, because of that, you can't shift-select multiple units from the same stack without selecting the whole stack (by clicking on the status bars). This makes it impossible to merge multiple (but not all!) units from a stack without moving the units away first, and it also makes it a lot more tedious to give movement or attack orders to just some units of the stack - you can select them in groups so you have to click through them all and assign orders individually.

The purposefulness of this all beats me. It's great that you have offered the option to use counters instead of the sprites. But why have different, nerfed-down functionalities? Could you, as a late Christmas present for us NATO-counter fans, fix the counters for the next patch - or better still with a quick hotfix? Please? :)

All I'm asking is that the counters would work just like the icons, only the looks need to be different.

Cheers.

- A grognard.
