Can I suggest a radical improvement for the implementation of bus lanes in CIM 2. That is to make to make bus lanes an add-on like tram lines and trolley wires, that can be added and deleted to existing roads rather than being integral with each road type, as now. This would also have the advantage of halving the number of different types of roads that need to be displayed in each of the roads menus.
Currently the addition of bus lanes for a new route entails the demolition and rebuilding of all the roads needing a bus lane (they are essential when traffic is heavy). This is very expensive and even worse when the roads are curved. Replacement of a curved road, even when done very carefully often results in buildings being inadvertently demolished.
It would also enable the removal of redundant bus lanes and the addition of a second bus lane to road, not currently possible.

The simpler way of doing that should be a replace road tool. Click on a road, select in which kind of road you want to transform it and paying a price you have the road changed. If the road size is augmented, therefore some building will be destroyed, you will pay for that too.
Anyway is something requested by the community since the game was released I think.

Norfolk_Chris's idea sounds better. Then you can put bus lanes where you want them. If you only want it in one direction, then you can do that. If you want it on the middle lane, you can do that. If you want multiple lane, you can do that.
Much simpler ;)

I agree, but Bohser is correct in that we need a general road-upgrade tool.

Well I don't think that, "programming-wise", his idea it's simpler. It would needs a different way of handling roads by the game engine imho.

+1 to this, it would also allow multilane roads to be all bus.

I still think there are uses for in place roadway modification. Its a pain to have to redraw a complex curved roadway in place when all you want to change it from one type to another.

Could any of the devs reply to this thread?
Is this possible to add in the next, or an upcoming patch? My guess is it wouldn't be too hard to add. Copy+Paste the Tram tracks, edit texture and some scripting, and done...?

This would improve the bus lanes ALOT!
Another function that would be useful, is selecting what lane goes where in an intersection. The default is sometimes not optimal.

Thanks for reading.

The road construction tool is quite complex and this would be a big change to it. I do like the idea of being able to add bus lanes easily, but it sounds like a change that's too big to currently make.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but a modify road tool in the style of the one in map editor should be simpler to add in a patch, because the mechanics are already in the game.

Could we have that?

TIA :)

Not possible to use the same game mechanic used to add overhead wires or tram tracks instead of the normal road tool?

Good point. That could be a problem.
The Devs should know. That might be the "hard and complex" part...

Too bad we can't get everything we want....
