This here's a little project I'm working on. The core of it is that the 'Byzantine' Empire makes a comeback (obviously). The reason? I hate the early years of EU2, but I want to play as BYZ.
The Backstory:
In 1439, representatives of the Orthodox Church agreed to the descision of the Council of Florence, supposedly ending the 385-year split between the West and East branches of Christianity in return for pledges of aid from the West.
When Mehmed II begins the seige of Constantinople in 1453, the West makes good on its end of the deal. A final Crusade is scraped together and with the aid of the Venician Navy, the seige is broken and Mehmed is killed outside the city.
With the Ottomans off-balance, the Romans begin a campaign (supported by Venice and other North Italians)to retake Greece, which is ultimately successful. Serbia and Bulgaria become independent again, and Kamaran takes advantage of Ottoman weakness to take some nibbles itself.
The reeling Ottomans invade and crush Trebizond and Dulkadir to attempt to offset their losses and get more manpower/taxes/etc. The explusions of Orthodox Greeks from Trebizond trigger an equal reaction from the Romans regarding the Muslim Turks in Anatolia (province).
So now it's 1492.
The Map:
Romania
Pros:
-Still alive.
-Lots of good provs.
-Solid manpower base
-Allied to Venice
-Orthodox tech group (pro?)
-It's Romania! =D
Cons:
-State gov't is Catholic, all provinces are Orthodox.
-Converting back to Orth makes West mad, can't fight West and Muslims at the same time.
-Unstable due to rapid expansion, the surrender to Catholicism, etc.
-No good leaders
-Andreas I is Emperor
-Venice is senior partner in alliance. Possibility of becoming vassal state.
Notes: Cores scaled way back to represent more limited aims for the still-shaky state.
Serbia and Bulgaria
Pros:
-Orthodox tech, religion and state religion
-Some armies
-Not at war
-Serbia owns Bosnia province
Cons:
-Bulgaria province is Sunni Muslim
-Possible snacks
-Not Romania. D=
Kamaran
Pros:
-Turkish Sunni all over.
-Big enough to play with the Empires
-Cores on all of Asia Minor.
Cons:
-Not much to them.
-Also not Romania. D=
Ottomans
Pros:
-Good leaders and monarchs
-Turkish Sunni all over
-Kamaran for a snack
Cons:
-Not-so-good provinces
-Reduction in cores from their harsh defeats
-Pure EVIL! D=<
I'll also be scripting some fantasy events for this scenario. The rest of this scenario is the same as standard 1492.
Although I do hope for feedback (esp. when I make a 'beta' version), final descision on what to add/remove/change is mine and mine alone. MINE!
