Ok I'm playing Byzantine Empire and am trying to resurrect the Roman Empire and am almost there. Well actually an AI Emperor before me did most of the work, but one of my ancestors married his daughter and murdered his male heirs and placed (ha ha ha) Yours Truly's dynasty on the throne. But since the latest patch (1.08), Paradox has taken out the Byzantine Imperial Conquest Casus Belli (not sure if spelt right) to attempt to restore the Roman Empire.

This completely sucks:mad:, Firstly I was looking forward to playing against an Emperor who tries to restore or has restored the Empire; Secondly, I've tried 50 CKII years to generate a Casus Belli on Italian rulers/nobles, but its hopeless. To make things slightly annoying, you have to conquer an entire Duchy for it to count towards restoring the Empire.

So, help, how to generate casus bellis FAST.

1) Fabricate a claim with your Chancellor on the duchy capital. You have a rare chance to get a claim on all provinces.

2) Invite a claimant to your court, land him (barony works), and push his claim.

I don't really know of any other ways.

Oh I completely forgot about your plan 2, I used it all the time in my first game LOL.

I tried with the fabricate claim, but only got claims on counties (conquering county by county isn't much fun); but, I didn't you have to place them in the duchy capital to attempt to get a duchy claim. Thanks, will try that.

While I can understand the frustration, the original state of the IR CB was incredibly broken, and turned Croatia and Duklja essentially into Nubia north, as there was little to nothing they could do to stop from being overrun by the ERE (and in every game I started in 1.07, they were), and the Sicilian states suffered the same.

Now they're still at risk of Byzantine ownage, but at least they have a fighting chance as they're unlikely to be losing entire duchies at a time (which, for Duklja, is game over after one IR).

The Imperial Reconquest CB isn't completely gone you get it back after restoring the Roman Empire, so if I remember right the only ones you need that you didn't already have a valid claim for are Tunis, Latium, Alexandria, Genoa, Venice and duchy in Croatia. After that you can restore the Empire and get the CB back.

In my first 1.08 game, Croatia and Duklja still got owned. They're de jure territory of the Byzantines, they get dominated anyway.

Yes, it can still happen but its no longer a guarantee. Assuming its back to pre-1.07 status, I imagine we could very well see both succeed in some games, as I've seen Croatia a few times go on to be a nice power before 1.07. To argue that it doesn't matter is silliness, as being faced with losing a county at a time versus a duchy at a time is a silly argument. There's a very good reason de jure wars are only for a singly county at a time, and the original IR CB was the best argument I've ever seen for keeping it that way.

And just because you saw it happen in one, two, or three or whatever games doesn't change a thing: if they're no longer facing losing a duchy per war, they're in better shape. And unless there's something dramatically different, it should be enough to give at least Croatia a fighting chance, even under the AI's watch, as it was pre-1.07.

It has slowed down the Byzantines in that area (& Sicily) significantly.

Balance-wise they need to be slowed down alot more (along with all the other Emperor-blobs), but I suspect this is a lost cause.

Find people in the line of succession to a large title (e.g Tuscany, Croatia, etc.), marry them to your kin (matri if they're men, obviously), and kill the title holder. Since they are in the line of succession, they will gain an inheritable claim on the title. Kill them when they have a child, and you'll have a member of your dynasty who has a weak claim on the title. Then kill the title holder so that his underage son inherits, allowing you to press the claim. They will be vassalized.
