I find that the actual Imperial Prerogative Ascension perk has lost it's utility by a far margin.
I usually picked that perk to ensure modelling some colonies and having some control on core world while expanding. The +4 direct control was really huge. Now that you have anyway direct control and the Perk does simply let the empire maluses start after, i find that the +30 cap is really not worth it. Consider also that prior the number of owned non-planetary systems didn't count.

You start with 30 (1 to two planets depending on side -if full equipped-)
You easily get to 60 thought techs.
With the perk, you go to 120.
All repeatable give 10.

Yes, it means it doubles your base cap, but that is it : your base start cap. I would imagine some use if it would double your base tech cap, wich means adding 60.

Consider also that a similar perk is the one for edict duration : +50% correspond 5 repeatable and not 3.

I imagine that by being very tall +30 can be seeing as enough, but you would have to be really tall.
I don't know the exact calculus which is behind the empire maluses, so maybe i could be wrong...

EDIT : Same thing with the Government slot admin cap
EDIT : corrected 30+60+30=120 not 90

Could definitively be an option, as otherwise it is an usless perk unless you want to do a one sector challenge ;) .

Couldn't respectfully disagree with you more. Imperial Prerogative is almost always as powerful as Technological Ascension (sometimes more powerful), plus it also reduces other costs. It is even more useful for MegaCorps with their 50% more penalty over Admin Cap. After Executive Vigor, it appears to be the most powerful raw bonus to wide play.

I think the biggest problem with IP is that you can't take it first pick. Your second pick is generally going to be ascension path 1, and third pick has to compete with stuff like Arcology Project. Pick 4 is going to be AP2 and by the time you have pick 5 the bonus of IP is starting to wash out fairly badly, not to mention that it's now competing with stuff like total war (colossus) and Galactic Wonders.

To be honest I'd still mostly pick Interstellar Dominion first up even if I could take IP, but it would be competitive there. When you're around and just over the admin cap, another 30 cap is pretty significant. When you're already at a tech penalty of 100% or more, reducing it by 10% isn't that significant. Half as significant, in fact.

Maybe reduce the admin cap that districts cost.

Nah, Districts are powerful, most systems are not. Reduce the per system cost, very few of them are more powerful than a district at base 8 production for energy / minerals but twice the cost of a system.

I agree, the problem largely stems from just how expensive a system is to colonize. 2 AP for a pathetic 2 energy system is not worth it, especially since those numbers add up over time. As a result, this also further weakens techs like IP and planetary management.

The problem of lowering the system cost, of course, is that this will further encourage rapid expansion which could upset the balance of tall vs wide play, especially with the constraints they've tried to put on Megacorps. I think it would be best if they penalized system claims a different way, instead of having them add a flat number to the AP amount.

Yeah, I agree completely. Your assessment of the situational nature (60/30 .Vs. 580/30) is spot on. I also think IP would be a lot more competitive of a choice for 1st pick. It could be useful there to snap up more systems and seed more planets without tech penalty, until the planets could get their research labs up and running. I generally only take it 2nd pick if I've had bad luck and can't get Evo 1 or Void borne and don't want to waste years w/ no AP pick. But yeah, after first two picks, there are too many good things for IP to be reasonable.

I feel kind of the same-way about Enigmatic Engineering. I like it for reverse engineering denial when I'm going tech heavy, but man ... it feels bad to take it for 3rd pick or later, even though I *know* it's going to be super helpful to keep my tech out of my barbarian neighbors hands.

It's like the perk was balanced for the base game only. When you don't actually have Voidborne, IP looks a lot better.sort of like MoN.

Y it’s not as popular as it was in the past currently.

I have used it on a very super tall empire build in the recent patch but of the 5 games I have going it’s the only one.

I would use it for megacorp empire type but it’s not allowed.

The new system makes perks more or a situational experience and overall its better. Still needs more work.

In the past it was great because it was based on planet. Now it’s simply not enough value. It needs to be plus 50 base and it should scale vertically so it can be used in a tall and wide situation.

* Administrative Efficiency (repeatable) tech effect on Admin Cap increased from 10 to 15

It seems wrong that an unchangeable ascension perk now only gives twice the bonus than a repeatable tech. I personally think it would have been better to increase imperial prerogative to 40 or 50 instead.
