Welcome to Part 4 of my Austrian Megacampaign If you were looking for Part 1 you can find it Here! If you were looking for part 2 you can find it Here! and Part 3 is right Here!

The Story so Far:
Previously in history the Anniona dynasty rose from obscurity out of the borderlands between Bavaria and Bohemia. quickly rising to power in the region ushering in an age of Religious and Imperial Conquest that would lead to a restored Western Roman Empire, the Christianization of Europe, Spain and North Africa. Though the Austrian emperors soon grew complacent after defeating the Sunset Invasion and the Dynasty fell into decay, decadence and collapse. House Anniona and its Cadet Branches still rule Europe but years of incest, corruption and possible demonic possession afflicting Austrian Emperors shattered the once great Empire leading to the Infamous Edict of Vienna of 1412.
Over the next Four Hundred years house Anniona has clawed its way back up to the top. Using the very rules dictated by the Edict of Vienna to unite the Holy Roman Empire once again. Though there were sacrifices. The Protestant reformation was crushed in its infancy, and the Various cultures and peoples of Europe have been subverted conquered or otherwise oppressed by the Holy League, A Joint alliance between The Celtic Empire, Holy Roman Empire and Russian Empire.

Austria also carved out the largest Colonial Empire in the history of the world Controlling at it's height over half of the Americas, Japan, South Africa and the Congo, and Uniting the Bloodlines of the Aztec and Japanese Emperors into the Annionan Bloodline, meaning that all Austria Emperors are now theoretically descended from not one but two different sungods as well as the original Founders of the house. The Anniona Cadet Branch of Anniona-Bretagne currently rules in the Celtic and Eastern Roman Empires, as well as Spain and Cordoba.

The Napoleonic War and the Italian interregnum during the early 1800's would shake the foundations of Europe leading to the brief independence of the Kingdom of Italy and the Coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte. In the Chaos of the revolution the Colonies of Peru Venezuela and Argentina broke away from Austria proper while the Powers of North America formed a great 'Continental Congress' to ensure that Colonial oppression would never return to the New World.

Napoleon's Italian state was later crushed by the combined efforts of a modernized Austrian-Celtic Military and The intervention of Russia under a new Liberal Constitutional Monarchy. With the defeat of Napoleon Europe was once again 'Set Right' along Holy Roman, Russian and Celtic Terms and it would stay at peace until friction within the Holy League brought on by the Napoleonic Wars and changing Ideologies led to schism and eventual breaking of the longest standing alliance in the history of the world.

Meanwhile the Great Empires of India and China were gathering steam, building a combined industry greater than Europe's and with a massive population to fuel it, the Holy Roman and Russian Empires were forced to liberalize their economies lest they be left behind. The Holy and Eastern Roman Empires would colonize Africa in this time hungry for new Glory and resources trapped within the Dark continent. Korea would also be seized by the HRE in this time while the Wu and Indian states ran out more minor colonial empire's such as Cordoba from China. However between the Ethnic tinderbox that was Scandinavia, the Crimea and Colonial Crisis in Africa and Asia, the Russians and Austrians too would drift apart.

Eventually differences would lead to war, and on several different occasions coalitions led by Russia, the Celtic Empire or the Byzantine Empire would form to try and topple Austrian Dominance of Europe only to be send back until the Celtic Empire finally collapsed, losing both Scotland and Ireland to a revived Scottish state.

With the Balance of Power in tatters, India unified under Empress Ashanti the First, and Feeling itself slowly being Minimized the Wu Empire of China committed to helping the Byzantine Empire and North German Empire of Westphalia against the Russo-Imperial-Indian Alliance. Starting a War that would be felt the world over, one that would devastate the Indian and Greek Countrysides, lead to the Fragmentation of the Chinese Empire, Partition of Greek Africa, The Global Communist Revolution and following Depression of 1900.

In the Following years Fascists have now taken over the remains of the Chinese, Greek and Celtic Empires and have swallowed up neighboring states and begun to build themselves up to finally have their revenge against the Holy Roman Empire.

Now the Holy Roman Empire Empress Octavia Anniona, a beloved Champion of the Imperial People has ruled the Empire Benevolently for over a decade, expanding welfare, repairing the ailing economy and once again allowing Austrians to vote for representation in the Government but Tension between the Great Powers has never been higher. The Empire's Enemies are everywhere, to see Austria though the coming darkness it's people most not only be strong, but hold Imperial Hearts.

Some House Rules I'm keeping too: (I am going into this completly blind so I cant really say I know many exploits)
1. No Going Fascist, or Communist, Were absolutist after all
2. If the Holy Roman Empire Falls, We will continue playing as one of the Empire's Dominions with the goal of reclaiming the Empire.
3. No Foreign coups ordered by myself.
4. With the exception of Greece, only Lands that have been Austrian in the past may be kept.

Goals: Fairly Humble here becuase I have literally never played HOI4 beyond a few test runs to make sure everything doesn't crash terribly.
1. Survive.
2. During WW2, restore Austria's CK Provinces.
3. Restore Austria's Control over South America.
4. Get Nukes, and Super Heavy Battleships and Tanks. Deploy them at least once.
5. All Axis and Commiterm Majors need to be defeated except 1. (So out of the Celts, Byz, Soviets, Sudamerika, Chinese Union State and Possible Fascist/Commie India and America only 1 allowed)

I'm using the V2 to HOI IV converter and the Mod files it creates which you can find here though I'll be modifying the files as I go.

I'm looking forward to seeing you take the Annionas through WWII! When I started reading this back in CKII I didn't expect it to escalate from somewhat silly medieval shenanigans (made sillier with anime portraits) to highly serious geopolitics and vivid descriptions of wars. I can only imagine what will happen when you or China get nukes...

Edit: and you will be making reunification with the ERR a top priority, right? Can't have two Roman polities existing simultaneously.:D

The Maus was an over heavy piece of crap. Don't even get me started on the Ratte.

I'm a bit more of a Fan of the E75 than the Maus. Not for any practical reasons it just looks awesome. I've also got a soft spot for the TA183 becuase it looks like a child between the Swallow and the Komet.

If we can Roll into Shanghai with IPZ-75's to the sound of IKS-183s overhead I can die happy. Though I'd like to crush the Chinese before I'm at end game technology.

E-75s are ok, but I would think they would be your endgame Heavy Tanks. Perhaps the E-100?

Prelude: 1930-1936 AEIOU

(The Imperial Flag of the Holy Roman Empire since it's Adoption in 1850)
1930, Over a Thousand Years since House Anniona first knelt before the Throne of St Peter to create the Holy Roman Empire. The World has changed Much in a Millennium, The Islamic Powers of Old have long since been crushed and the many Insurgent Princes of Europe and Warlords of China had been subjugated under greater empires. The World at Large now was ruled no longer by theology and religious but by Ideology, Wealth and Industry. At the Center of it all however remains the Holy Roman Empire which has managed to survive the many blows history has given her, and had evolved to fit the times.

The Empire of Today is, by comparison one of the most liberal states of the world, Housing free and fair elections and though ultimately elected officials within the Empire hold little to no 'actual' power. Elsewhere both Fascists and Communists ruled thier respective countries with Iron Fists, Or Held Mock Elections with only one Candidate. Only in America was the Dream of 'True' Democracy still alive in the form of the Caribbean and North American governments, with the Sole Exception of Scandinavia which while originally dominated by Socialists has thawed and elected the Social Conservative Anti Radical Skirstag into power.

Europe is Divided between Four Great Powers and a handful of smaller weaker powers. The Republic of Greater Albion, Holy Roman Empire, Soviet Union and Byzantine 'Empire' remain the strongest powers on the continent. Nations such as the Nationalist Republic of Hispania, German Union and Portugal have been seized by Fascist and Hyper Nationalist Movements and stand alongside other Fascists in greece and France. Meanwhile Scandinavia has Liberalized and stands surrounded by enemies as a liberal democracy. Under the surface however many nations struggle for independence such as the Visigoths in North Africa, Walloons in Eastern Albion, Poles in western Russia.

The Holy Roman Empire remains, a Multicultural Empire made up of Italians, Bohemians, Austrians, Germans, Goths, Greeks and regional minorities in the outer reaches of the empire. The Occitans, French Speaking peoples of the Empire have nominal independence and are ruled by the current Empress' 1st Cousin King Otto II and remains an autonomous region of the Greater Empire. Italy and Bohemia among others also have their own Kings but hold purely ceremonial power. Italy being the exception in that the Italian Monarch while a figure head still retains a valuable platform to rally the Italian People either for or against the empire.

The Holy Roman Empire is currently ruled over Empress Osterhild 'Octavia' Anniona, who ascended the Throne during a period of intense political crisis during the turn of the century. Empress Octavia is reponsible for reversing the Holy Roman Empire's Laissez Faire Economy policy following the Great Depression, putting into place several new departments of education, welfare, healthcare and infrastructure, packaged alongside modernization efforts for the military.

In 1930 a Octavia passed a second series of reforms, this time targeting the century old structure of the Austrian Government. First by legitimizing her Grandfather Ferdinand's Dominion reforms and forming the IDC or Imperial Dominions and Commonwealth, which consists of all Austrian Colonial Territories and Economic Dependences (Such as New Anglia and Haiti). Later that Year the Empress would pass what was quickly dubbed the Octavian System into law, a new frame from which the entire low government could be restructured to ease rising unrest, and fight the growing fringe ideologies of communism and fascism.

The Octavian system was a major democratic leaning reform of the original Absolutist system that had been the Austrian form of government since the Napoleonic Wars. The Right to vote was opened for all Imperial Citizens above the age of twenty. Votes would be registered and then representation would be determined by the D'Hont Method for the Reichsrat. Half of the Imperial Senate would be appointed by the Monarchy, while the other half would be determined by the various provinces and dominions of the empire who had free reign to appoint or elect whomever they wished to serve as their representative.

The Imperial Chancellor, a carryover from the old system was also appointed by the Monarch and held executive authority derived from the Emperor in which to enforce laws and mediate the Senate and Reichsrat. The Imperial Council similarly was appointed by the Monarch as well but held no effective power, instead being expected to advice the government as a whole on the proper course of action, and Council seats were often expected to be given to veteran statesman, retired generals, capitalists and party leadership.

The remaining sector of Government, the Imperial Courts remained relatively unchanged and continued to operate their basic functions in enforcing and evaluating law as well as disputes within the government. Like with all things under the system however the Emperor had the final say in matters of judgement.

The system was of course by no means democratic except in the incidence where an Emperor wished to refer rule over to the System itself to govern. Written into the new system however were many, many provisions for the Emperor to retake complete control of the government at any time. The Bureaucracy had tried to usurp control before after all, and such an attempt led to the Napoleonic Wars.

In America things were far more liberal. The United States of America had exploded out of being an irrelevant minor state in Georgia to being an Economy and Political powerhouse. While not the first to pioneer democracy in the new World (That Honor belongs to the now defunct state of Columbia) the United States has when, not trying to advance more material ends, been fighting for advancing the cause of democracy across the continent, recently earning a great victory with the liberalization of the Knight's Transient.

California, which is another powerful state in the Americas has also recently liberalized and had experienced a more economic boom that had turned a relatively backwater mining colony into one of the premier liberal democracies and economies in the New World. Not how powerful as the Americans the Californians have dabbled into more niche marches such as the booming moving picture and radio industries.

For the rest of the world however things was less optimistic. Asia was more diverse than Europe, but had spend the better part of the century so far being locked in a state of high tension bordering on total war. The Chinese Union State had risen from the ashes of the first world war to reunited China, subjugate neighboring states and quickly become a military and industrial superpower. Much to the misfortune of the Indian Empire and republic of Malaysia.

India meanwhile had been experiencing a prolonged period of economic downturns, followed by military disasters followed by more economic crisis. Tired of prolonged warfare and military spending draining the economy the Indian people have recently elected the Anti War, Isolationist and Capitalist Mahat Patel who they believe can breath some life back into the struggling Indian Economy though many are skeptical unless serious changes are made in Indian Economic policy.

The Holy Roman Empire also has a significant presence in Asia in the form of the Dominions of Manchukuo, Japan and Korea. In days now long past house Anniona intervened in the second Sengoku and married into the Japanese Imperial Family. Conflicted and ruled over as no better than any other colonials within the Empire the Japanese spent the better part of the last century conflicted about Austrian Rule. With autonomous dominion status having been granted to the Japanese however the country has since industrialized using cheap Californian Oil alongside Korean and Manchurian coal and has grown to be the economic beating heart of the Empire in the east. The Koreans and Manchurians have also benefited to some degree but still remain mostly rural.

What many expect to be the primary threat to world peace is the Axis, an Anti Austrian Alliance between the Various Fascist states of the world. In more recent years however rising distrust between Axis members had led to a three way split between the Fascist alliance, between the Celts, Chinese and the new Upstart 'Sudamerika' which doesn't quite fit with the rest of the Axis' anti Austrian, Anti German Rhetoric due to being a primarily Austrian, German, state.

Sudamerika which has not been mentioned yet is exactly what the name states, a Union of the Various south American countries that broke away towards the end of the Colonial era and during the Napoleonic Wars. While most had leaned democratic for many years, internal divisions, the threat of communist revolution, the great depression and new theories of Eugenics that were perverted to support beliefs of Germanic superiority, South America became the number one landing place for Fascist exiles from Holy Roman Empire fleeing arrest in the Holy Roman Government and the continent had quickly fallen under the sway of such individuals leading to the Union of South America and in the six years following, dissolution of the Republic and rise of Cosimo Von Brasilia as the Fuhrer of the empire of 'Sudamerika'.

Even divided however the Axis remains a dangerous threat as while in times of peace the alliance has been allowed to bicker between itself over priorities, the onset of a second great war could be the push to reunited the Fascist Alliance in the interest of decapitating the Austrian eagle once and for all.

The Remaining Great or Relevant powers (Eastern Roman Empire excluded as it is a member of the Chinese Union States' alliance) remained much more closely aligned with the Holy Roman Empire. Elected leaders such as Arthur Macdunn and Jaime Orleia had continued decades long policies of friendly relations with the Empire.

The Soviet Union was naturally least inclined to drift anywhere near the Holy Roman Empire but in recent years had suffered a series of embarrassing military defeats. So far however the fragile communist regime has not collapsed under Joseph Stalin and in fact remilitarized. Still the Soviet Union should it try to exert it's influence on the world once more was but one Communist State in a sea of Black and Blue. The only other communist country was the People's Republic of Mali in far away West Africa, and like the Soviet Union and Sudamerika had focused not on outside conquest or advancement but Internal reorganization and reform.

(Holy Roman IF-100's Being Inspected before a Patrol over Alsace Lorraine)
The Tension in the last six years had only grown in the world. With Nationalism still burning bright in China and France, Communists preparing some dramatic revenge on the Axis and The Holy Roman Empire now no longer waging a war to suppress it's own people, War was coming. It was only a matter of when.

Nice summary of the HRE's political system. I hope it survives the war intact. And India is still a monarchy, right?

Also, why do the ERE and Knights Transient have their 1836 names?

Chapter 1: Rhapsody in Gold

(1936 Olympic Arena outside Shanghai China)
1936 opened much as the previous six years had, eerily quiet. The 1936 Olympic Games in Shanghai, China were scheduled as a start. Chinese Supreme Leader Hong Liao upon the completion of the 1932 games in San Francisco had spared no expense in building the biggest arena in the history of the games. The games were planned to filmed alongside a live radio and early television broadcast, one of the first events to make use of the new technology on such a scale. Still controversy loomed as Liao's administration had made several strongly worded requests not to allow certain athletes from participation. Facing a boycott from the Holy Roman Empire and it's dominions the Chinese eventually lifted the restrictions for foreign athletes, only foreign athletes however.

(Holy Roman Reichsrat Building in Vienna)
Back in the Empire another matter entirely was coming up, Namely the 1936 General Election. While the Senate and Reichsrat were reassembled in 1932, the election was nonbinding and the usual appointment system instead filled the new Reichsrat and Senate. From 1936 on both houses would function as intended under the system with the Reichsrat representatives coming up for reelection every 3 years, Senate Elections and Appointments Officials every 5 alongside unofficial party leadership elections.
In late 1935 it was decided that Octavia would, as a gesture of good faith and to provide some legitimacy to the democracy would appoint a Chancellor from the party leadership of the Reichsrat Majority party. While not a direct campaign, the four main parties of Austria, held internal elections to nominate their proposed Chancellor who would become the face of the party for the coming campaign.

(Cedrik Shimizu the NSRP leader)

Ultimately when all was said and done there were four major parties in Austria with enough capital and support to be relevant for the election. The first of which was the Nationalsozialistische Reichspartei, or the self styled "New Black's" or NSRP. Headed by Cedrik Shimizu the NSRP had spent much of the previous decade trying to divorce itself from its original Fascist roots and had changed much of it's ethnic politics to be what Shimizu was calling 'Empire First' which summarized to an Authoritarian Stance on social issues and political issues, protection and minor revision to the current welfare and infrastructure policies while being Anti Socialist and advocating for military action again the People's Republic of Mali and Soviet Union.

(Benito Marcini the SDP Leader)
The the other end of the spectrum was the newly founded Social Democrats. Like the NSRP the Social Democrats had ties to an older, banned party in the form of the old Socialist movements around the country. Also like the NSRP however the Social Democrats had tried to distance themselves and had softened. Still the SDP was quickly branded by the Media the 'Red' party of Austria, and despite protests from the party itself, the name stuck. As time wore on however the old stigma of being the 'Socialist' party of Austria had begun to fade, only to become division again when party leadership chose to appointed Benito Marcini as it's representative. Marcini was a political strongman, having come from more humble roots in sicily Marcini preyed on many Holy Roman fears of Capitalists and Fascists abroad as a means of gaining support. The more Conservative and Liberal biased media quickly named him a demagogue, stating that his economic and foreign policy was bordering on nonsense, Still for many working class Romans, Marcini seemed to be the only candidate who could see the danger of the Axis abroad as well as the Economic Elite at home.

(King Christopher Augustus Anniona of Bohemia leader of the LNP)
As a more moderate choice, the old National Liberal 'Yellow' Party of old had stayed much the same as it had been in Ferdinand's lifetime. Policies mostly unchanged, the Yellows argued for minimizing government intervention in the economy, expanding the military and maintaining the status quo. The Party leader for the yellows was the Charismatic and young Christopher Augustus the youngest brother of Empress Octavia who argued his 'Three Class System' should replace the current Freudian welfare reforms. The system ranked Imperials based on Income and social station, leaving welfare only for the poor, and granting the middle and elite classes tax breaks and other benefits instead, hope being that the new economic burden on the economy could be lifted and instead spent on expanding the Empire's Shipbuilding capacity among other things. Christopher while well to do himself was inexperienced, very young, and had a weak point in the form of the NSRP as well as fascists in general which he would angrily rant about during rallies rather than staying on topic. While not as divisive as the radical candidates many Imperials felt that Christopher was playing a game best left to older more experienced and established politicians.

(Nicholas Dandolo of the KSKP)
Enter the last major party of the Holy Roman Empire, The Imperiale Sozialkonservative Partei
or (KSKP). Born from Social Democratic and 'Blue' conservative roots the 'New Blues' as they were being called were the de-facto establishment of the empire. Originally placed into power as a compromise party between rising Socialist and National Liberal Tension the Blues had implemented several sweeping welfare and more recently liberal reforms to stabilize the country.

The KSKP leaned heavily conservative on matters of the economy, favoring state control, tariffs and government intervention whenever possible, a natural extension from the parties' core philosophy of providing welfare to all Imperials no matter their ethnicity or income. KSKP front runner for chancellor was the longtime mayor of Venezia, Nicholas Dandolo, a reputed dramatic who had originally changed his name to Dandolo early in his political career for the prestige. Dandolo described his policy and campaign under the slogan 'Hold the Line' which accurately described both his proposed foreign and domestic policy, of continuing the status quo, Obstructing the Axis and Soviets and protecting Welfare. Alongside a fierce anti crime, anti corruption message. Dandolo was well loved by the Italians and had several endorsements from House Bonaparte for his advancement of local Italian Democracy in years past, outside of Italy however Dandolo wasn't well known and spent the majority of the campaign attempting to rectify that issue and appeal to German and Czech voters.

Several issues would dominate the coming 1936 campaign. At home the major issue was the stagnating economy, war readiness, Growing Crime in Italy and Colonial loyalty and the various Colonial Corruption Scandals that continually cropped up out of Afrika and Lindi. The Liberals wished for a Colony-First approach, to clean out corruption and reinforce Austria's Empire abroad. Meanwhile all other candidates supported an 'Empire First' plan to expand and standardize infrastructure, schooling and military industry.

In matters of Foreign Policy the Blacks favored an anti Communist policy above all else, the Red's Anti Fascist as expected. For the Yellows the focus was again on reinforcing Austria's economic sphere in America and protecting against extremists abroad. The Blues meanwhile wished to further Austria's protection of democracies the world over, argument that Scandinavia was a fragile democracy that needed protecting and that India should not be left out in the cold.

(Photograph of Jesse Oranje, Top Gold Medal winner at the 1936 Shanghai Olympics)
The 1936 Olympics gave pause the the elections at home in the Empire. While the games had gone forward and had lived up to the splendor the Chinese Union State did not prove Chinese superiority quite like how Liao was hoping. Jesse Oranje, a black athlete from the United States brought home four gold medals, the highest of any participate to the games that year.

(Small Typo it seems, Should be KSKP not KSCP)
The End of the 1936 Elections came not soon after. The Result, while surprising was not world ending. The Liberal party, due to Christopher's inexperience, fears of removal of the Freudian Pension and Healthcare systems and the continued bleeding of traditional National Liberal voters to the Blacks and Blues. The Red's meanwhile did extraordinarily well, managing to deny the blues control of the Reichsrat by splitting the Italian, Working Class and urban vote. Between appointments and representation from California and Japan however the Senate skewed heavily into more moderate territory, much to the grumbling of the more extreme Reds and Blacks. With the approval of Empress Octavia the election moved forward regardless and the chancellor was picked.

(Nicholas Dandolo as Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire)
The Empress ultimately would go forward with her promise and name Nicholas Dandalo Chancellor of the Empire. Dandolo upon his selection gave a speech to his supporters and over the radio promising an end to the Era of Axis adventurism, the protection of Democracies of Scandinavia and India, a massive Crackdown against internal Crime and Corruption and a definitive military stance that threatened war should the Axis do anything to threaten Holy Roman Hegemony at all.

The mod is currently a work in process, While I've rebuilt all the unique focus trees by hand I havent caught all the Localization and event bugs yet. I'll make sure I get to them so they have the proper names.

Can't wait for the war to kick off
Soon, Soon. Part of the Downsides of being 'Democratic' is I cant declare war until someone else does, but all the Great Powers (Including myself) have access to a Focus or multiple that will lead to WW2. So it's coming, and if the test runs are anything to go by, probably it'll start 39-40ish.

Subbed. Show the fascists and the communists the Annionas are the masters of the planet!
I intend too, after all, they are on my land :p

Nice summary of the political parties in the empire and how historical figures are doing. Also, I will be very disappointed if Dandolo isn't involved somehow in the eventual conquest of Constantinople and the ERR.:p

It seems like a bad idea to let another Dandolo near the capitol of a Roman successor state. I mean, we all know what happened last time... and if you don't, just ask SirDippingsauce
