LordPaul and Rirre IV had been convinced by Anibal III to visit the province of Rio Grande in 1709. Anibal had been there during his tour to convince people to vote for the war two years ago. LordPaul liked what he heard so much that he abdicated his Dukedom of Gaul to his brother LordAdrian. He had decided that he wanted to make his fortune in the new land of Rio Grande.
The three men hired a small flotilla of ships to sail to the new world. A large contingent of retainers were coming with them to set everything up in the style and comfort of which they had become accustomed. Upon their arrival they discovered quite a thriving city on the shore of the Gulf of Texas. The three wanted to start their own colonies, so they in turn decided to split up for the immediate future to try to colonize three provinces at once.
Each man had brought well over one hundred people with him so if they were successful they would immediately be considered a colony. A rough one, but at least a start. It would qualify them for Imperial funding and support to expand their colonies.
LordPaul decided on Matagorda as his new base of operations. He took ship along the coast to the new territory and began to set up a new town on the shoreline. It would allow for easy resupply from the sea, which would be much quicker than overland.
Anibal decided that Pecos would be his choice. He ordered a wagon train assembled and his group made his way into the hinterland. He had managed to convince a local legion commander to send a 1,000 man detachment to help explore the lands.
Rirre chose Concho as it would be central to his two friends lands. He also assembled a wagon train and his own detachment of legionnaires to explore his new lands. His legionnaires had to defeat a native warrior band who had tried to attack Rirre and his group.
Each of the three actually had great success. The three provinces became small colonies. The three had agree to a mutual defense pact against aggressive natives. They also sent letters to other friends and relatives to put out the word of new lands to develop.
By 1712, Joe Storey had put together his own colony and made his way to El Paso, where he also created a viable colony. He made an effort to have peaceful relations with the local natives and the Navaho nation to his immediate northern border.
Commandante, a retired legion commander, gathered a large group to go to the newly explored land of Llano Estacado. His success caused a new wave of colonization throughout the newly colonized lands. Even Wichita found itself with a colony when a big group of colonists got lost on their way to Commandante’s territory.
By the time of 1715 Anibal, LordPaul, and Rirre had their colonies nearly to colonial city status. Proud of their work, the three would meet once every two years in Galveston to party and have a good time. Word reached them in 1716 that the empire had declared war on the Persians.
Surprisingly only Delhi went to war with the Empire in support of the Persians. The Ukraine honored the alliance but only 1,000 men under the new Nalivayko arrived to help in the struggle against the infidel. One of the last acts of Emperor Karl was to send a large amount of ducats to the Cossacks to help them.
They accepted the money but relations between the two nations deteriorated in a rapid fashion, even with a Royal Marriage. Karl died in 1718 disappointed in how the Cossacks seem to have spurned his overtures of friendship and solidarity.
The next emperor lived for only six months before Felippe I ascended the throne. A Vasa through the Iberian line, he was the first monarch who had not been born in Stockholm. A first for the empire, but it didn’t matter in the war effort.
The legions had swept through the Persians, despite their greatest efforts to slow down the righteous wrath of the Romans. There were no epic battles. Skulking Persians were wiped out without much trouble at all. City walls were stomped to the ground. Isfahan surrendered nearly without a fight. The last Persian outpost surrendered in 1719.
Delhi had also been embroiled in a war with Viyanger. Legions from Bombay and Goa trounced the minimal forces Delhi could field. Viyanger had already pretty much beaten their ancient enemy. Despite that, the legions still managed to free a few provinces from them. The Indus River had been reached and somewhat surpassed, but there were still six Persian provinces, and one Uzbek Khanate province in the ancient Macedonian conquests. It would take probably two more wars to finish the job.
The Cossacks did manage to recruit quite a few troops with the largess the empire had bestowed upon them. But for some strange reason they allowed Muscowy military access to their nation. Nalivayko, deep in the Delhi provinces, heard about this and went into an orgy of death against the small Delhi army arrayed against his Cossacks. It was a battle the military minds of Delhi would not soon forget.
