August 1638 - The War in China rages. The Danish expeditionary force is busy taking the Chinese center of trade in Tianjing, while Ebbe Ulfeld wipes out yet another small Chinese reinforcement force for the bypassed army in Hunyan (Danish Military Doctrine: Never battle strong enemy forces)

18k chinese troops are sitting idle in Chansi waiting for... well, who knows.

January 1648 - Status in Europe.

Denmark is the horrible light-brown color spreading out all over the place (Russia is Dark brown). A couple of the German minors (Baden and Wurtemburg) are the same color as Denmark, though they haven't been annexed -yet.

Scotland has lost two provinces in the last war, where England regained Calias. The entire Baltic region has been annexed by Denmark.

1648 - Status in North America

After the annexation of Holland, North America (except Northern Canada) is almost entirely Danish. Genua has a small colony up north (orange dot). A large number of interior colonies (protected by a ring of trade posts and colonies) yet wait to be colonized in the American interior. In South America, Spain has almost finished swallowing up the Inca state.... Hmm, guess who's next on the Danish menu card.

1648 - Status in Asia.

India annexed (except for the Islamic Moguls - orange - I don't want muslims in my empire since this will force me to lower tolerance for the other faiths), China annexed (note the population of the capital 240k vs the 18k of the Danish capital :D), Japan annexed. The majority of the island colonies/trade posts were former Dutch possessions, taken over by me when I annexed them. Only Portugal (green) has any possessions here, while England (Red) has colonized all of Australia and New Zealand (off screen).

With the Dutch out of the picture, I am unlikely to have much competition while I colonize the rest of Asia - should Portugal disturb us, they will be crushed and annexed.

1648 - Status in Africa.

Patchy colonization of Africa at the moment. Only two colonies - Cape Verde islands (top left) and Table in South Africa so far. With their moderate colonization here and in Asia, their heavy colonization in South America, and their general weakness, the Portuguese are likely candidates for annexation on the Danish road to world domination.

Note btw, the treasure balance and reserve manpower. Inflation is at 0%.

Difficult/Aggressive level, so not quite the hardest. On the other hand, it doesn't get much harder on the next level, except you have to use even more troops to achieve the same results. :(

IMO, the game balancing between the various nations is really OK (playing England is vastly easier than playing Denmark), it is the game AI that is not quite 'there'. Especially historical leaders are its major weakness - they are somewhat unbalanced in the game (huge advantage over default leaders). Note that during the period were my conquest really went bananas, I had 1-2 military leaders in service. Without leaders, it would have taken longer.

But still a very worthwhile game, IMHO, and liable to get even better as Paradox (unlike many other game companies) do something about the feedback they receive.

Strategy, great game! The provinces by the great lakes in North America are counted as coastal provinces so anybody can colonize them as long as they have discovered them. In my Russian game i had a large North American empire - (started in Wisconsin!) with no colonies on the real coasts.
