Imperator Rome, kind of reminds me of March of the Eagles

Both of the games seem to be set in a very speciffic time Period (Rome's raise to power/Napoleon's raise to power), including only a small area and being based around one nation(Rome/France).

It feels like this project is some sort of Introduction to a next generation of Paradox games. To see which approaches stick and which don't. Like lot's of ideas found in EU4 (monarch points for example) were first experimented with in March of the Eagles.

Will this game be a collosal failure introducing a next generation of Paradox Games? (Vic 3; CK 3)
Or am I just being overly pessimistic?

Edit: Oof, making this was a mistake XD

Have you seen anything about the game at all? The area spans from Scotland to south East Asia. How is that a small area? On to it that it spans +300 years of history. As for focusing on one nation, I have seen nothing that shows they are only focusing on one nation. Imperator:Rome seems IMO to focus as much on Rome as Crusader Kings focusses on kings going on a crusade

Hmm... you might be right, but how do you know it will span 300 years? It proabably will, but I didn't see the end-date confirmed yet.

Also, true the map is much bigger than just Europe, but that's because the Game recreates Rome. You honestly can't play any massive Empire of that Period in a simmilar manner. There is no way to Recreate Egypt at it's height, because it wen't further south.

I', just saying I see a big analogy to March of the Eagles. It is a game simmilar in style to the Paradox 4 main games, but it's completelly set in a seperate timeperiod and unrelated to the other games. And it comes out at a time where none of the mentioned 4 games had a new release in a long time (except Hoi4, but that ones seems seperate to the other 3 somewhow)

Not saying I'm wrong or right, I just have a hunch and would like to discuss it, not attack anyone.

The end date has been confirmed to be somewhere around year 0 in a youtube interview with Johan. Start date is confirmed as 450 A.U.C, that makes it around 300 years.

You can't do the Empire of Alexander the Great or Perssia.
And why not? Borders are possible. As for Africa, eh, Africa wasn't important at all in this period, not to mention, wasn't mapped at all.

Paradox has stated they won't be making small scale games like March of the Eagles or Sengoku anymore because they weren't popular.

You are only seeing superficial similarities and are reading too much to them.

Wait what? Just like Hoi4's time period has nothing to do with EU4 you mean, or ck2?

Honestly your training is pretty flawed. Everything we've seen from this game screams big budget top of the line new series from PDS.

Edit: wait, autocorrect changing reasoning to training. A well, still worked I guess

What @Rhaegar1 plus the fact that it's not an introduction since it's the sequel of a previous Paradox game which has been requested for years...

The game is very striking and there are some big improvements in detail which bode well for future games (like the character models and DNA, and level of map detail). But mechanically it strikes me as evolution not "next gen"? Maybe the exception is the technology mechanic which is expected to be totally new.

But it doesn't strike me as a proof of concept game. There's a huge opportunity for PDS to create an IP that captures the perennial interest strategy gamers have in the Romans.

You can't do the Empire of Alexander the Great or Persia.

Maintaining and expanding Maurya is a feat in itself. Her greatest king Ashoka did not manage to conquer the Tamil south. Would be looking forward to this.

Ashoka became pacifistic after the Kalinga War. Wonder if they'll model that. Also he had 5 wives so will there be polygamy?

Game isn't just about Rome (although it's the center of attention for majority of players, for obvious reasons). They did confirm it will be possible to play as monarchies or as barbarians (or anyone on the map) and everyone is supposed to play out in a different fashion.

Personally I am glad they are trying to make a new game in that time period. I'd rather have them try and fail than not try at all or push out the same thing over and over again. Essentially, the more IPs they manage to develop, the better off we are as players.

The map includes persia and india. You can do all what alexander did and more.
And Ethopia is included, and egypt never went more south than that.

It is conceptual, not due to the lack of any numeral. The year that start an era is the first year of this era, hence is numbered year 1... While Revolutionary French were perfectly aware of how drawing a "0" which had a great importance on the decimal system they generalized everywhere, they established 1789 as the Year 1 of freedom and 1792 as year 1 of the Republic for those conceptual reasons. And I presume -without knowing it- that when the Jesus Christ's birth era was conceptualised, erudites who conceptualised it did known the 0.
