Yes, its already hard to recognize. If someone new to the franchise you showed him 1.0 and 2.0 he'd think its Imperator Rome I and II. And its about to become even more obvious in the next couple of updates.
which updates do you mean? How do you know they will overhaul the game so much, that it is less recognizable from the first release?

Few Questions:

How can I build Foundries, I have the money but still cannot, the tooltip doesn´t tell me anything. Same for great Temples and Theaters

Also the Great Wonder design feature is great, but quite plain, I would love to have more in depth graphics, more decorations, colors ( marble is just white where in history it were painted) more side buildings and such, it is a great oportunity to expand this amazing feature.

A thing that always bother me is the elephant resource, it gives 3% pop ouput where horses just 1%... well where to start, is there a huge reason why horsese where everywhere and elephants don´t, they aren´t much for a help in a civilization level compared to horses (or camels in deserts) ... for not extendigs, elephans are only accept warm climate, they eat a lot, they are very difficult to procreate, they age slow... Elephants should give equal or less than horses or just a plain commerce bonus ( ivory, some muscle) ... even in war there were too few and weren´t that great

Hey guys, personally loving the update so far. Brought me back from a long hiatus as 1.0 didn't really have any longevity to it.
With that said, I wanted to post a view UI issues I personally ran into, and would love to see fixed:

  1. Padding puts icons/values too low in the top nav
  2. top nav values are so far to the right, they look like they are for the next icon. Making it confusing to quickly look at what values you have set. Maybe reduce their padding-left.
  3. Tech tree scrolling needs an on left click and drag
  4. Hard to tell what parties people are members of when hovering or inspecting them
  5. Need a more clear UI for destroying buildings (knowing to right click a greyed out building with no visual feedback can be confusing)
  6. Any way to show "minor" families? Right now as Rome it seems you can only have 4 major families, but you can still integrate other families when conquering another nation. Would be nice to see them in the list a "minor" families or something that don't feel obligated to any govt positions. (basically how they work now)

The interface has been redesigned, but it is again the same as the tabular layout of the sites from the 00's. Everything is made only for the English language, the font is very small, the text in many places does not fit.

They allowed by inventions you have to unlock via the invention trees. It's unfortunate that the tooltips don't make that clear right now.

I've played some time with new update as Thrace and have some observations.
I like the general direction - good job with new ideas, reworked UI and so on! :)

However I have a feeling that the game became easier now. The game I based my below experience on is on a Hard difficulty.

Previously I've had much more problems with disloyal characters rebellions, especially after the death of a king, now with few bribes here and there I have almost no problems with that and haven't had a single civil war because of characters. Provinces rebel similarily to previous version.

Before 2.0 update I had a feeling of being constantly attacked (also some games as Thrace) which felt a little too much and finally I wasn't able to defend.
Currently apart from one time from Macedon nobody attacks me.

Have a look at the map attached, especially the part of Italy I've taken. There was no major fight with Roman forces during this war. They were engaged in a civil war with Roman Revolt but still - they didn't try to defend their major region (apart from some 2 armies of 2000 men each). Ledger showed Rome had above 200 cohorts but I haven't seen them. (of course I've allied with Egypt and Armenia and attacked them during civil war but still).

Raising Levies should have strong an impact on economy. In current situation in my game after raising 151 cohorts of levies my income dropped from 66/month to 52/month (and manpower from 157k to 127k) - actually I expected higher loss.

If export commerce is the new meta, raising levies will not make a dent to your economy as slaves keep producing surplus goods. Trade definitively is up for a rework.

So, what's up with the AI peace deals? They always seem to take the enemy capital and that makes for absolutely disgusting borders. So many times I've seen carthage lose its capital to Rome, but live on to conquer most of Iberia, and of course it's stilled called Carthage even if it lost the city of Carthage a hundred years ago.

I just finished my first run in 2.0 with Rome and I enjoyed the new patch very much. Some feedback on things I experienced during this playthrough regarding the new features:

Automated Trade:
Generally I like this feature very much and think it could be a tremendous help to administrate large empires.
I however found that in the later stages of the game my provinces had next to none active routes despite having lots of trade goods (mostly internal) to pick from. Why doesn't the system pick any of those? Although the internal routes don't provide that much income it is still better than have 0 of 6 trade routes used and dozens of olives/stone/fish/livestock etc. lying around in other provinces. What could be very beneficial would be a limit similar to the Capital Surplus where all but the first two (or whatever number the player sets) of a certain trade good can be used for internal trade whereas the rest are reserved for external trading requests.
I also found that the internal automated trade sometimes does not respect the Capital Surplus setting. Even though I activated it, the goods got traded away and the culprits were always automated internal trade routes.
And finally PLEASE make it that rejected automated trade requests do not result in a popup window. If I have to click away one more denied wood request from Carthage I'll go crazy.
A last general note on the trade window in a province: Could there please be an indication in the import trade goods overview if an available trade good will be traded by the supplying nation? This could be for example by a green and yellow surrounding of the icon. It gets incredibly frustrating having to click through the icons just to see that the supplying country wouldn't accept a trade.

Imperial Challenge Wars:
I got this CB quite early in the game and it really helps dealing with big nations. I did a couple of them and I think the biggest one was conquering all of Egypt, Palestine and parts of Syria in one go. In my experience there isn't really a point where I have to slow down due to the negative effects stacking. The worst is in my experience the negative stability from high AE but this can easily be slowed down by stabbing a pig or two at the beginning which allows finishing the war and reducing AE again befor the effects get too severe even with 100+ AE.
The war exhaustion at the moment can be pretty much ignored since the happiness effect takes very long to be noticeable in terms of provinces revolting. Everything above 20 WE is basically free because as soon as a peace treaty is signed the cap will be lowered from 30 to 20 instantly which means I went in almost all of those wars up to the cap of 30 and stayed there for quite some time. I hope that in the future some events will be added for high war exhaustion which will really make it a difficult decision if grabbing some extra territory is really worth it.
Lastly I personally think that the "Devotio" Button to reduce War Exhaustion is far too convenient. There is really no reason to push it multiple times at the very beginning of the war. It decreases War Exhaustion over time and furthermore increases the AE degeneration via Tyranny, both major issues in an Imperial Challenge war. This would be for instance very different if it also had some minor stab impact to add to the one resulting from AE.

Legions:
It took me quite some time to figure out how to reduce the amount of cohorts in a legion without dispanding it entirely. It doesn't seem very intuitive to me that I have to dispach a subunit and only then can disband that one. Wouldn't it be possible to do it similar to the building system with left and right mousebuttons like with the buildings? Thats what I first tried to do but didn't work obviously.
While it is possible to rename a Legion to whatever I like the game soon after changes it to "Cohors I Legio <Province Name>" even without me splitting it up beforehand. While I first renamed it every time afterwards I soon gave up which I think is a shame.
I also would suggest that the correct term for these detachements in coherence with the Roman military system would be "Vexillatio". During the Principate it was common for legions to send such vexillationes to major campaigns such as Trajans invasion of Dacia while the mother Legion stayed in place. The cohorts on the other hand are to my knowledge subparts of a Legion and do not act independantly.

Levies:
I enjoyed this feature very much and it is now really important to have a good road network or a strong navy to realy bring the whole weight of the Empire to a distant battlefield. I however think that the levies of disloyal or newly integrated culture are too soon/easily available. I often beat the revolts of newly conquered Provinces with the levies of the neighbouring provinces which often also were close to a revolt or which came from pops which I was at war with and got integrated only a year ago. This doesn't seem very logical to me.
I also don't understand why I have to be at peace to disband levies. Why do some levies after a war in Syria care if there is still a province in Hispania revolting? Or why won't the local levies disband after defeating a barbarian incursion because there is still a war going on at the other end of the empire?

Ports:
One of the saddest experiences during this run for me was what became of ports. In earlier campaigns ports where always prime locations to conquer/colonize and found cities upon and therefore were highly desireable targets. Now they became in many instances a liability from a gameplay perspective especially in settlements. I often did not delete them for sentimental reasons to keep the map alive, even though it meant not to build the farming settlement which would be the good choice regarding gameplay. I really hope that at least some part of it will be a geographical feature again in future patches.
On that note: Why does a farming settlement allow slaves to produce fish more efficiently and not a port? Do they grow them on fields?
In my opinion the current system poorly reflects the importance of good natural port locations in antiquity. I can't imagine any situation where a town council would have debated if they should demolish their harbour and build a library instead. The Romans built a major port at the mouth of the Tiber without geographical feature in the early Empire but that took resources at least at the scale of a great wonder production and could be designated as such. Before that for instance all the grain fleets went through the Bay of Naples and then over land because there was no closer good port available. In the game this is currently represented by just one more click on the port icon (and not building said library).

I think that levies should be more in quantity, keeping the difference between Barbarians and Civs... Barbarians and Rep should have more levies, 20% more, and kingdom 10% more.

Also for the sake of the new system, instead of wiping a population as cohort dies ( wich is pretty unhistorical, pop are half woman, and at least half children, with some seniors) so wiping a cohort shouldn´t wipe the pop, instead it should wive a malus of ( as example) -50% population ouput and unable to revolt for 60 months.

I was slightly skeptical about the direction in 2.0 but after a new Rome save (to re-learn the ropes) I can safely say that I am loving it.

I was mostly skeptical about the levy system, but as Rome I am loving it. As a minor I'm pretty sure it's a completely different experience that I've yet to see (initially tried to start an Athens save but immediately changed my mind, so did not have time to check that).

The technology tree looks far better now, as an actual tree and I also know what I'm eventually getting at, rather than having a toss up salad and randomly clicking which tech update I'd want at the time. Helps with developing a strategy.

Some things that happened:
- I'm huge, got the entire of Italian peninsula and even some got myself Alps and other side of the Adriatic provinces. But Carthage has not really bothered me apart from declaring a war on me once, and there was another war between us as I backed some independence movement and it triggered. I ended up annexing all Sicilian and Sardinian provinces from them and ever since, nothing. They keep asking to trade with me. [Have not gone for a mission on Carthage yet]

-Seleucids got completely destroyed and a tag called "Persian Empire" appeared. Brought me a tear of joy. Their land mass stretches from the Indian borders to Bactria, and from there to Egypt and for a moment they controlled half of Asia Minor

- The Antgonids are reduced to a couple Cycladian islands

- Thrace got big. Reall big. They control Anatolia and northern Greece essentially. And Macedon is their vassal.

- Sparta owns most of the Peloponnese. I did not remember seeing that in the past but I did interfere a lot in that region.

- Epirus got wiped out by Taulantia. Then a few decades later, boom, Epirus returns, goes to war with a huge Taulantia and annexed them. Now Epirus is also huge. Also, my allies, but they have not called me to any of their two big wars. In EU4 for example I'd be called to almost any silly war my allly was involved in.

- My lack of interference with Carthage apart from exiling them from the Italian islands has not helped them grow stronger and I'm not sure if their strength came from Sicily and Sardinia. Egypt is standoffish and there's no relations between them and Carthage to block them from any expansion, but the Carthaginian campaigns in Spain have been a complete failure for the most part, at least thus far. Whatever land they gain, they quickly lose to these minors.

Some things that I feel could be tweaked:
- Buildings mechanism. It feels too simplistic, you can delete them by accident with a right click with no warning and a few other points were mentioned in the thread on this iirc.
- Trade. I don't always get "automatic trade" despite having it enabled. Most of my trade routes are unaffected and I still have to manually add trading goods. I think since there is a pop system, an interactive pointer that shows which trade goods are wanted by popular demand, rather than the generic % happiness improvement etc. Maybe acting as a temporary bonus to increase happiness, integration etc.
- Army composition and legion creation. A tad confusing imo.
- Levies. Ability to increase/decrease their number perhaps?

All in all, I can say it's a much better experience and I wasn't one that disliked the original version.

I just bought the game and I am really liking it, I have played just few hours, but what I feel it lacks is some kind of Quality of Life improvements such as better Macro Builder where effects on each province are clearly shown (i.e. what does +5% means in terms of real dollars or tech research)

This UI has issues. You can't always click on a name to be brought there, it doesn't show you what law you're replacing when it wants to enact a new one, the pie charts with a logo in them are a terrible and difficult to see interface, and the trade UI doesn't give nearly enough info at a glance.

And the mission system is way too specific and punishing. If an area gets depopulated you can't complete the mission, and the development trees want you to demolish the buildings you already build in specific provinces (can't just right click on names to be brought there) and build new ones which is tedious.

Personally I really like this extension. However, I really feel that a balance has been upset. Large nations are now fairly easy to maintain and develop while small nations are quickly surrounded by colossi.

If I had to express what bothers me in a few words, I would say that small nations are disappearing far too quickly. The games remain pleasant afterwards, nevertheless, it is quite surprising to see about twenty great nations occupy the map after 50 - 100 years of play.

In three parts this is what happened to me with Sparta, Rome and Egypt. I don't know if you have the same experience, I would like to know if it was planned or if I had the same type of development 3 times.

Take care
