As the title says when trying to launch a new game the program freezes and then crashes. I can get to the screen to select a faction, but here it either locks up and crashes or I can select a faction and hit 'start' at which time it then crashes.

Looks like there have been some similar issues experienced by other users, but I haven't quite found one that matches and none of their workarounds have quite worked for me. This one seems closest, do I understand that my intel graphics card means my system is not compatible with the min requirements? I had not caught that when downloading from Steam. Its odd because my other games seem to work fine (CK II, EU IV, HoI IV etc)

Version 10.15.3

Any help is much appreciated!

Had the same issue. Just bought the game. I contacted support and got a super helpful answer, which was basically:

It's your Mac's fault. Use bootcamp — not sure how launching bootcamp changes my video system — or revert to 1.2 and don't expect an update or try to get a refund.

I'm afraid this problem is almost certainly due to your Mac not meeting the game's minimum requirements; the published minimum is:
Graphics: AMD® Radeon™ R9 M380 with 2GB Vram
If your Mac has an Intel or old nVidia video system, that is the problem.

Your options are:

- boot the Mac into Apple Bootcamp if you have that installed, as the issue does not exist under Windows
- run on another Mac with a supported video system
- run on a Windows or Linux machine if you have access to those
- revert the game to 1.2 in the Steam Betas tab for this game, as that should still work.
- if you have just bought the game, please seek a refund from that vendor

Sorry you've ended up in this situation!

But that in it of itself is not a good answer. Why? Instead of saying "bootcamp it" or "revert to a version with none of the features that have been worked on the improve your experience and playability" (forgive me, but compared to now, the versions you recommended are atrocious). I remember being preordering this game. I remember versions 1-1.2. Then 1.3 comes around and suddenly it can't run on a MacBook Pro made in August 2019, built months after the game comes out (and thus with specs more than capable of running the game smoothly), and your answer is to "bootcamp it"? Your answer to a bunch of people who probably don't have Windows or Linux because they use Apple (I did bootcamp, but it's not like I've got the room on that partition to run Imperator on that, I actually use it for a Windows exclusive, VIctoria II, not for games that are supposed to be able to run on a Mac) is to use Windows or Linux? Or another Mac with a supported video system? The video system was supported, and it was assumed that it would be continued to be supported. I have always been a supporter of Paradox Interactive, especially in the monetary (I have spent far more than I am comfortable to admit on the games, DLCs and Music than I am comfortable to admit), but this is insane. What has changed in the game? Less families, thus less workload on the computer. Mission trees (replacing the event based thing, which is good). I don't know how that can require a better graphics card or other things if the same thing exists in EU4. I just don't get it. I'm not buying another computer because frankly, I can't afford that right now. It's a horrible solution in an environment where most people's incomes are lower than average.

I couldn't agree more. I am in the same situation: I bought a MacBook Pro 13" 2019 (July), which runs a 1,4Ghz Intel Core i5 4 cores. I bought the game in the summer and played a couple of hours. It was running smoothly. I'm a huge fan of Paradox games, and was enjoying one of its brand new games.

Now it stopped working since patch 1.3. I have been patient and I was hoping the new 1.4 would fix it -- I've been on hold for playing it since then.

But same issue... because of minimum requirements that have been upgraded unexpectedly?

Why can't you just fix it? You have regular customers here who bought a new computer, bought a game that used to work, and now the game is no longer working. You broke it.

I'm not sure I could get a refund given Steam policies, as I bought your game in 2019. And even if I could, you're really saying you have no plans for fixing this in the future?

I paid $CAD 40 for it, I expect more than "Sorry". I don't get it.
