As you may have noticed in our streams automation is now an integral part of playing the game, should you want to. Unit objectives are a way to outsource the management of some armies to the AI, essentially using the same things that the AI itself uses to control its armies and navies. You can at any time select an objective for each army or navy under player control (or several units at once, in which case the objective applies separately to each one currently), which enables AI for said unit, making it automatically take actions almost as if it was controlled by an AI country.

Is AI automation affected by how good the general leading that army is? (please say yes)

Lastly we turn to one of the last regions so far not covered by our Development Diaries. The Balkans!
Kinda wish the Danube was a more significant geographical barrier instead of being just a modifier you see only in battle.

Yes I think some of these rivers should have areas of restricted crossing.

One thing I noticed in the recent dev clash is that truce breaking (especially often in quick succession) is not punishing enough. There should be major revolts as a punishment as well and great unrest and disloyalty as surely an unsanctioned war should cause major troubles, especially if you don’t do so well. There should also be unrest for losing wars that you started in my opinion.

The ability to enforce peace when controlling the war goal could also use a bit of a tweak in my opinion, not sure what, but it felt a bit Haley watching the recent clash. Perhaps remove the ability to enforce when the war goal is being desieged.

I would tweak the enforce peace by giving the country being enforced upon the option to continue fighting for a stab hit and war exhaustion increase. So if you think you can turn the tide, you can try and do so but have to pay a cost.

Sort of like "if you reject this peace deal, it will be very unpopular!"

The automated armies option is pure awesomeness.
also if you are to delegate armies to characters that makes character interaction yet more important.

Really glad you guys are putting in features like this at launch, eu4 took years to even get naval missions. Keep up the good work!

What’re the traditions going to be tho? If I was betting I’d say they have the Dacians in the generic Barbarian Group and hopefully the Iryllians in the Hellenistic Group.

Celto-Pannonians:
Nonetheless the Celto-Pannonian Tribes are not as numerous as either the Dacians and Getians to the east or the Illyrians to the west
  • Scordiscia
  • Cotinia
Illyrians:
The western Balkans and the Dalmatian coast is dominated by a number of Illyrian Tribes.
  • Scordiscia
  • Cotinia
These tribes appear in both lists. Are they Illyrian or Celtic?

Oh, so giving control to governors of armies is not one of those automated AI functions?
Giving Control to governour is its own action (one of the buttons, don't remember which one) and it make the governour the general of the army and limit its operation to only inside the region (or maybe the province) and give an unrest reduction to all cities in the region/province. Also giving an army to the governour also make him more loyal but with the risk that units become loyal to him.

The loyalty bonus from cohorts apply to generals as well from what I have seen but loyal cohorts greatly reduce loyalty and this is a thing that was in EU: Rome, the ability to give troops to the governour was also in EU: Rome.

I dont think it will be possible, but I'll ask just in case. Is the AI capable of shipping and landing your own armies as the enemy AI does? For instance, Im at war with carthage. Can a stack controlled by the AI get on a ship controlled by the AI and ship it to Mallorca to take it?

Having to take islands is one of the biggest pains of EU4. If only the AI controlled armies could do it on their own accord, that would save so much time, pauses, and micromanagment.... It would be amazing if you guys managed to go that far, although I dont think its possible. But hey, maybe in the future.

These unit objectives, are they a separate thing to the governor armies @KaiserJohan has mentioned before?

That is something separate.
An army can be assigned to a governor. These will then be able to move only within that region and will be led by the governor, they are however not necessarily under AI control, you can order them around within that region. The strength of this army also reduces unrest in that governorship.

I am looking forward to a completly AI controlled army playtrough of Imperator. Hopefulyl the AI is smart enough, so I only have to create stacks and work in economy and pop adminstration.

I won't play every game like this, but having different playstyles avaible sounds cool.
It's an incredible feature to have for roleplaying purposes. Can't wait to order one of my generals to do an expedition on his own for instance.* Also no need to say that it's very beneficial to have these as big countries like future Rome as well.

*It would be better to have an "Expedition" option too but hopefully will work out just fine with "Independent Operations".

So much this, I love to play PDS games kinda hands-off while working or doing something else, so I mostly go for pacifist playstyles that don't involve me moving armies around in big wars; with fully AI controlled armies I can try something new, even if it makes suboptimal decisions, as long as it's on the level of the other AI armies.
