this are not provinces. This are states/countries.
True. But I agree with @Trajan72 in that the name conventions seem sadly mixed for countries (and provinces?): sometimes the proper (?) tribal ending, say Cornovii, Parisi, Eburaces, and sometimes the more improper (?) 'civilised' -a at the end, such as in Scandinavia: Herulia, Rugia, Sueonia, Sarmatia. I'd prefer all tribes to be named as tribes.

But surely just an oversight at Paradox's end and easily fixed in the localisation files during development.

this is pretty amazing. Hopefully all UI reforms in question serve the gameplay. I agree with the fact that they have to take the best of all the games of both vic and EU. Of course historical adherence would be fantastic!!

Of course historical adherence would be fantastic!!

When it come to tribes' names and locations it will be purely guesses though. But I'm fine with that: no worries, since otherwise it would be sadly empty west and north of Italia.

Hmm I am worried about this game.
I think you are doing a disservice by setting it so early, it should be in the 19th century I think. And with a different name but none come to mind at the moment...

Nah only joking I am looking forward to this, can’t wait for release!

I have a suggestion concerning the -ia and the -ii sufix. If it would be possible to reform the tribe into a more centralised and strogner state the name should be with an -ia suffix.Until that they would remain as -ii

I still have some misgivings about some of the internal issues with the roman republic, but I'll be damned if that map doesn't look fantastic. Hopefully it isn't a style over substance problem with this game. A good amount Complexity without too much streamlining is something to aim for!

Why is the core of Sardinia empty? I mean, I'm aware it was sparsely populated by mostly pastoral tribesmen, but a lot of other areas on the map were too.

Mehh,,
When the Dev Diary says:
The Republic of Rome has TWO Consuls.
I will buy it!....o_O

Insert reference to Ross being an indignant consumer on Friends.

It's not going to keep me from buying it, but it will keep me from preordering. For a dev diary saying they want to add depth and complexity, shirking on a fundamental function of the roman senate really undercuts that statement.

To have more than one consul you must buy a DLC?

=)

Nope. I don't condone such hackneyed greed. I was already shafted by Total War: Rome 2. I won't be again with what is still technically EU: Rome 2.

More likely it'll be in whatever free patch accompanies a government and governance DLC.

Or it might make it in by launch. You never know, they might have a sensible way to do it turn up by then.

I'd rather they got all the relevant states and tribes on the map before that.

At a push the singular leader could be "the consuls X&Y" as a short cut to having the dual consulate taken into account.

"All in all, whenever possible we’ve strived to be adding more depth and complexity to the game, to make this into the ultimate GSG."

The right approach! Too many games these days cut back on features while trying to "streamline" the experience, which is great if you're creating a multiplayer arena game, but otherwise, just leaves it hollow.

Yeah!
A united Gaulish kingdom could be a to hard nut to crack (even for a consul)...

2.) A Japan DLC makes absolutelly no sense. Japan during 303 BC was empty. There was nothing just some neolithic tribes. Not worth a own DLC it would be added in the China DLC.
I agree that a DLC or patch including Japan is unlikely. However, Japan technically wasn't empty in 303 BC/BCE. That's around the start (or a few centuries after the start, depending on the scholar) of the Yayoi period, where a social hierarchy began to form and agriculture became widespread throughout the main islands. Unless Paradox goes by the Kojiki/Nihon Shoki and uses the emperors in them (would be fairly ahistorical), the only other option would be to incorporate the various villages and clans that would consolidate into the early centuries AD/CE. I'd think that would be far more trouble than it was worth, especially since Japan didn't have a significant role in the world during the game's time period.

At a push the singular leader could be "the consuls X&Y" as a short cut to having the dual consulate taken into account.
Maybe for a mod, but that would definitely be a cheap solution vanilla, for a game from a renowned developer. So what if "the consuls X&Y" die mid-term: both of them die? One can't die without the other?

Why is the core of Sardinia empty? I mean, I'm aware it was sparsely populated by mostly pastoral tribesmen, but a lot of other areas on the map were too.
Just took a look at the map Johan posted and it looks like there are provinces there! Could it indicate some form of minor colonization feature?
