Looking good. Those are the type of things we need.

Just one thing.. Please make those tabs (i.e. 'culture', 'mercenaries'..) optimized. I hated entering for example mercenary tab and my fps drops to 30 from 240... i just hated those kinds of things...

First off forgive me, just seen the dev responses not others posts, 12 pages is too much for me to read!

My first thoughts on the colour of the UI is that it felt... hmm. But then the comparison side by side made me think that perfection is a difficult thing to obtain, and I don't think the new one is perfection but it is a darn sight nicer to look at than the current one. I get the logic for the original theme, it looks "Rome'y", and it probably would have been ok if we had variants for different cultures (broadly, One for india, one for middle east, one for celtic, maybe a couple more).

Even though trying primary and secondary colours for nations UI is probably ugly for the majority of nations (no guarantee of a good match), it'll be nice if the red, black and the teal like colour for buttons were modifiable, I think we could work with that and make a set for major (if not all) nations through mods, and would give a slightly more unique feel to the game as different nations. The text colour for all three to be editable would be nice too (gold on red, white on black, white on teal seems to be current plan - but full editing of these would help)

I'm preferring the senate look, and the family section - feels more like what I expect it to be.

I'm wondering if the text backgrounds in the first two images needs to be more opaque by a few percent.

I'm also wondering if the province front tab still needs some work on that left hand side, the right side looks a lot better with it sub-tabbed though.

I don't know how much people pay attention to culture/religion on the province tab, perhaps if there was unique icons for culture groups and religion, you could hover over the icons for specifics and save some space - lot of icon work though (but nothing that isn't done on other PDX games).

The UI rework is very good. But even now it is still looking kinda Excel. Did you try to change the font? I think this can be the leading cause behind that Spreadsheet feel.
Territory tab is great but for the sake of inmersion, I would like to see a bigger portion of the settlement/city rather than the terrain type. Maybe 60-40?
Do this follow the stellaris formula? different city sprites (one per culture) that fit into different terrains .
@jiroro amazing job. Very looking forward to next week DD.

A significant directive I've pressed home, is to bring out the importance of characters; no more beige backgrounds, more breathing room, additional usability functions (character search, anyone?), and a suite of backgrounds intended to give characters a little more life.

These are really promising words! Anything that makes Imperator more character-centred, reflecting the importance of patron-client and other personal relationships in the classical world, will make it a better game.

(Context: I bought EU:Rome and got very frustrated by how it was focused on nations, not characters. I've held off buying I:R until that's been fixed).

Since someone mentioned Warfare, could we maybe get Shattered Retreat to not have enemy armies go across my territory and wind up on the other side of the country? Especially if one of their allies is there. I've seen far too many armies retreat across far more distance than they advanced. Maybe restrict it to own territory (not ally; Though, I can see how this would be weird if supporting an ally with a large border.)

I love everything about the new UI, except the sidebar. I hate those minimalist sidebars. Visually boring, overly "metro", and too cramped into the border for a screen-clicker like me to feel comfortable. But it looks like those kinds of sidebars are the new normal for Paradox games? Probably for the best. I doubt that the kind of person who installs a WinXP toolbar on his Win10 computer is the main demographic for these UI changes anyways.

Regardless, would a mod that moves the the side bar to the top or bottom, disable achievements? Or is that not something we can know until release?

UI looks a lot nicer now, but i do have a few criticisms.

the resource UI bar kinda looks like an excel spreadsheet lol. probably from the lack of pop in from the background or just the fact it's a plain black times new roman-esque font on a light background
also, the territory screen still looks a little difficult to read. maybe if the more important elements in the summary tab were scaled up and vice versa it'd look nicer.

hope the feed back helps :)

will we get audio modding anytime soon? i remember audiomancer mentioning something about releasing the fmod banks about a year ago. i'm pretty sick of the marble PLOMP every time you click a territory.

Interesting DD after such a long time. Will definitely bring me back to playing and buying the new DLC if it turns out as promising as it looks thus far.
