It's all in the title, really. A ruler with immortality shouldn't die from being a general. It defeats the purpose of the trait and in particular with modding (I work in Anbennar mod) it's a bit of a pain.

Alternatively, allow for a ruler-general flag/trait that stops them from dying. Same effect, more moddable.

No, it doesn't. Generals in EU4 usually die from accidents, not from the old age.
This. Isn't immortality (the trait) the kind where you stop aging and don't die of old age? If so, that does nothing to help when your problem is someone currently giving you a lethal dose of sword-to-the-gut.

I can only imagine two army fighting on the field; one side has only 1 man left but he cannot be killed.

The immortality trait only stops death from age, it's not an invincibility trait. Nor was it ever intended to be one. Just look at the CK2 trait that it's supposed to emulate.
Yes but in eu4 army leaders die just for being an army leader, it doesn't matter they never take part in a battle

For modding, we'd like invincibility for generals. I frankly don't care what ingame lore you use to justify it, or whether it's attached to Immortality ruler traits. I just want the modding tool so I can make Anbennar an even better mod than it already is.

The trait is immortality not invulnerability
