AFAIK no they do not.

Assimilation has POPs merge with the majority religion-culture, but unless I'm terribly mistaken, the presence of clergy does not speed that process any.

I cant find the screenshot right now, but i could swear I got some mayahana boers playing Oranje, and orthodox acadians in my (past) AAR.

To my knowledge priests only effect conciousness and even that only for pops with the same religion.

nope, religion and culture of clergy doesnt matter.

I, too, have seen this kind of thing before. Specifically, Hindu Brits and Orthodox South Germans.

We all fight hard to assimilate everyone, because non-national-culture-pops production is capped at 50%, and he wants to put in a "residence" policy. Well. Assimilation is a GOOD thing. If you absolutely need irish troops, go and pown UK to grab irish provinces. Pops out there wont ever convert (besides if you force migrate them to the US)... Another strategy is playing CSA, as they don t come with tag= USA assimilation bonus.

I honestly seem to have no idea about immigration. But let me get this straight, when I get immigrants, they will merge with the population?! So if I'm Brazil and I get French immigrants, they will eventually become Brazilians?! Please tell me that is true, I hate having pops who I can't convert unless I have Full Citizenship.

In the Americas, assimilation happens rather quickly and pretty much all of the immigrants should assimilate within a few days. However, if you recieve immigrants faster than they assimilate you might end up with non-national POPs since assimilation only happens for small POPs. Having the same religion as a state-culture POP helps speeding up assimilation. For european nations, assimilation rarely happens at all.
