Well, i'm playing as the USA at the minute and it's 1874 i think. I have plenty of European pop's coming into California and there are empty factories waiting for them. The only problem is that they arrive with never more than 500 per pop and leave a maximum of a week later, even when they're working in a factory. I have the Socialists in power, all the right reforms but not one of the immigrants will ever stay, is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

Oh.. really? That's a bit of a shame then, i was hoping to have a massive Irish contingent in the US once more.. That would explain the population still growing rapidly though, currently at just under 50 million.

i am having the same problem you are having. my solution was to make a few new political parties, one of which is a socialist party with "residency" as a restriction. it doesn't do much, but it sometimes lets the more common Euro immigrants stay long enough to get big enough to not assimilate.

i know a socialist residency party isn't historically accurate, but i like having lots of POPs and not a small number of huge pops.

A slightly unrelated issue but...

I have had problems with mass pop disappearance. As in, pops won't merge with others, but will just up and disappear.

This seems to happen most with starting craftsmen or clerks when you either change the jobs in a factory by adding or by removing anyone.

Another problem, which isn't exaclty a bug, is when you move factory workers around and they merge because they're small enough to (around 1000 or up to say 1500), which decreases the efficiency of the factory and screws things up.
Annoys me whenever I play Sweden...

Why on earth would you want that to happen? You want them to assimilate.

Also remember to only expand the gold and oil RGOs in California so that eventually those RGOs and factories fill up and you can get immigrants flowing into your other states.

Won't that also decrease immigration to that particular state?

As well, if I'm getting immigration to those RGOs, I'm going to expand them---screw dispersal lol, if I can get that much more gold and oil :D

Its important to assimilate early and quickly and as well to have immigration widespread if possible, because once you miss assimilating a small group or two they eventually become larger and compound, and the result is a large non-national group forming out of it; religion is an important immigration factor to remember too. The game treats Protestantism, Catholocism, and Orthodox as two different religions not just "christian", thus making it harder to convert catholics.

Though, as the US, it seems almost as if religion doesn't come into play and POPs assimilate almost instantly by comparison to when anyone else controls North American territory.

We all fight hard to assimilate everyone, because non-national-culture-pops production is capped at 50%, and he wants to put in a "residence" policy. Well. Assimilation is a GOOD thing. If you absolutely need irish troops, go and pown UK to grab irish provinces. Pops out there wont ever convert (besides if you force migrate them to the US)... Another strategy is playing CSA, as they don t come with tag= USA assimilation bonus.

Maximum efficiency is overrated. Try roleplaying and have some fun. Break the usual pattern you've played from game to game.

Because of non-linear production efficiency of pops assimilation is not always good thing. 10 small non national pops produce more than those combined into one bigger national culture pop. But of course as USA which usually get lots of immigration, it might be impossible to offer enough jobs for all those pops without assimilation.

Those small foreign pops don't really produce much due to their 50% handicap. If you must keep pops small then turn the main pop into something else (officer, priest, clerk, whatever) and you can keep several different small pops in the same location.

Good advice, but can be hard to do if you aren't able to convert them to something needed. Like for example, you don't want to spread religion any deeper than it is so you don't want to make them clergymen, and you can't turn non-nationals into soldiers or officers all the time.

Of course, you can make them craftsmen or clerks, which won't help you if any of those culture and job migrate, but still...

FYI, immigration is crucial. The US was and has always been based off immigration and having diversity of people within it. Blocking immigrants won't do you any good.

I don't recall clergymen spreading their religion... do they do that?

Assimilation has POPs merge with the majority religion-culture, but unless I'm terribly mistaken, the presence of clergy does not speed that process any.

Immigration is good but I hate it when my pops merge. Especially as the U.S. since I want them just fill up slots, and I want them to go everywhere. I want Chicago to develop historically! I want to fill the RGO's everywhere >i try to do that with anyone< but by god, I'd rather have tons of small pops running around then large ones. Even if they produce less because of that strange hindrance, I can always expand the factories >capitalists will do it too< so it doesn't really matter.
